Nickel and Steel is a mostly-acoustic trio from Chicago and Oak Park. N&S performs original music with elements of old-style-country, folk and melancholy rock.  Oak Park songwriter Paul Stephanides leads the trio on vocals and acoustic guitar. Hailing from the southwest side of Chicago, country musician Karl Paulsen has set aside the bass in exchange for the pedals, levers, and 10 strings of the pedal steel guitar. They are joined by classically trained Andrew Sharp returning to the stage on upright bass.

I started playing gigs in 1968,  I believe I was in the eight grade. It was only junior high school dances but at the time, it was electrifying. In 1964, I remember watching "The Ed Sullivan Show" and seeing the Beatles perform live and they pretty much jump started my interest in music, Long hair, guitars and Beatle boots, very cool, still cool. I have always enjoyed good harmony parts and George's slide work has always inspired me. Over the years like so many others, I’ve played concerts, night clubs, special events, coffee houses, bars and such. Also toured the U.S. in 76. Now it's all about writing, recording, having some fun and being a part of the Sound Cloud community. Yeah man! 
Debut Album called “ Seafoam” released 2018 at Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby.


Some of my fav producers would be Gary Katz, Jeff Lynne, Sir George Martin, Eddie Kramer and Mark Hudson. As far as guitar players, great hooks from Keith Richards, best tone Eric Clapton, best feel SRV! Best slide guitar George Harrison, Sonny Landreth, Derek Trucks and Ry Cooder. Most creative exploration Eric Johnson. The most original and always inspiring the GOAT Mr. Jeff Beck, he is amazing. Walter Becker had the cool factor and the Mu chords as well as wrote such interesting lyrics.

With a deep-rooted passion for sound design and composition, I craft immersive landscapes that blend ambient, electronic, and experimental elements—each piece unfolding like a cinematic journey through emotion and soundscapes.

Music has always been a space for me to aimlessly explore, to capture fleeting moments of introspection, tension, and beauty. My sound is constantly shifting, shaped by a love for synthesis, glitch aesthetics, and the raw imperfections that make music feel alive. From intricate synth layers to hypnotic textures and evolving soundscapes, I aim to create something that resonates—not just as background ambiance, but as an experience that pulls listeners into a world of emotion and movement.
