Not content with presiding over three out- standing labels - Dessous, Audiomatique and Poker Flat (now in its 16th year) - and dusting down his long-dormant Traffic Si- gns pseudonym for the brilliant "Cookie Jar", Steve Bug finds time in his schedule to spoil you with another stellar release.

The title track "Coconut Paradise" is a ma- sterclass in crisp, high-definition house, as dubby synths, a solid kick and an insistent bass stab form a deeply hypnotic groove. Sustained tones surge in from the distance - all the elements coming together to create a perpetual motion machine.

"Thick As Mud" lives up to its name: this is house music that draws on the deep and deadly palette and spacious arrangements of dubstep and glitch, burnished with sni- ckering percussive repetitions and scything synths.

"Pants on Fire" is a restlessly inventive bricolage of unconventional percussive sounds and textures. Metallic tones ping and bounce deliciously in every direction.

One EP. Three outstanding tunes. Another formidable addition to an impressive discography.

There's good, and then there's great. And then there's essential. Steve Bug and his Poker Flat label, which is over fifteen years old now, are perennials in house and techno. Bug, German by birth, attained this canonical status through the sheer will of groove and melody, and his debut MIXED BY makes it look easy.

"We never want to go with the next big thing. We don't want to try to impress people with the newest artists who are super-hyped," Bug told THUMP last year. "We'd rather release music that has a timeless feel to it, rather than whatever is hip right now."

Lucky for Bug, house and techno are probably more hip than they've ever been, and his academic understanding of the history of club culture gushes from the speakers with every kick.

The mix features Poker Flat artists like Tim Engelhardt, Joeski, and Bug himself, before dropping cuts from Seth Troxler, Ten Ven, and Poker Flat alumni Josh Wink. With thirteen tracks in one hour, it shows you don't need to set off fireworks every minute to keep the crowd moving.

"I want to make people happy with the music that I like," says Bug. "I'd rather drown in my own sound than survive by doing something I don't really feel."

Drawing on releases from the last five years, Dessous Recordings gather together a choice selection of Steve Bug's stellar remixes. It's a compilation that showcases an array of glittering talent and provides a snapshot of the maestro's signature sound. As 'The Long Run' - Bug's collaboration with Victor Font - makes clear, this is house music that sees itself as part of a grand tradition, following in the footsteps of US pioneers from both Chicago and NYC. In line with this, a number of bona fide living legends get the Bug treatment, from the hypnotic vibes of Chez Damier's seminal 'CanYou Feel It' to the blue-tinged chords that lift Ron Allen's 'Wordz' to the brittle semiquavers that act as a perfect foil to the soaring vocals on 'Rise' - an undoubted album highlight.

Within the limits of the deep house blueprint, there are surprises at every turn, from the blissful chords of Lovebirds' 'The Rain' to the immersive repetitions of Martin Müller's youAND:THEMACHINES project to the buoyant pulse of Manuel Tur's 'Ara Anam'. For uncompromising lovers of all things deep, there's Simon Baker's 'Grey Area', lifted by dancing cowbells galore, and a hard-hitting version of Ric McClelland's Scope. And for DJs with an eye on the dancefloor there's Bug's rework of 'At Midnight' - his collaboration with Vincenzo from way back in 2000 - an irresistible groove with an incredibly catchy synth riff.

We're also treated to two re-imaginings of contemporary classics. From earlier this year, there's Bug's stripped-back sub bass heavy version of Garnier's 'Whistle for Frankie' while the deeply reflective take on Francis Harris's 'Pensum' provides the perfect comedown to a glorious long night.

Not many labels make it to release number fifteen, let alone year 15, but that’s exactly the milestone the Moon Harbour family is celebrating throughout 2015. Headed up by esteemed DJ, producer, remixer and Circoloco/DC10 Ibiza resident Matthias Tanzmann and manager André Quaas, the Leipzig based label has lasted so long on account of it having always moved ahead of the times. Celebrated for its diverse output from tech house to minimal to deeper club sounds, the label’s ever evolving roster of artists is like a who’s who of the contemporary scene.It might have been around for 15 years then, but Moon Harbour and its ever evolving family still very much lead from the front.

This is a 7 part recording of my birthday party mix at Club Der Visionaere - Berlin, last summer. 
I started in the early afternoon hours and continued till late at night.
Instead of bringing my usual record bags I asked my friends to help me carry over two crates of records that may have collected some dust and a couple of scratches but had no expiration date. 
I was standing/dancing in place for hours, yet time traveling with every needle dropped.
