In this week’s installment of OL Selectors, we welcome Papa Lu. 

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Papa Lu was exposed to a vast and diverse selection of underground music which he gladly absorbed at a young age. Finding himself instantly drawn to a thriving Hip Hop scene at the time, he dove right into the business of throwing parties, working with classic artists of the true school era like Digable Planets, Digital Underground, Gang Starr, Kool Keith, and many more. During that time, several house music pioneers like Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, etc. were making waves at the same venues he was holding his hip hop shows. From that exposure, he made a quick transition into producing house music events like his Night Moves party at Monarch SF. 
His love for music and natural talent for booking events rapidly developed into an exciting career of discovering new artists and bringing new sounds and talent to the Bay Area through his parties. He also collaborated with a group of close friends to create the Kazbah, one of the most popular sound camps at Burningman, and worked to rapidly gain a mass following through his signature sound known throughout Black Rock City and beyond.

Ben Westbeech: The Crosstown Mix Show 013

Through an emotional narrative of dreamy soundscapes, stirring melodies and hypnotic rhythms, Francesca Lombardo has cultivated a sound she can call her own. Criss-crossing the globe as a DJ and live performer, she's played shows from Burning Man to Circoloco to even The Royal Albert Hall. In tandem, she has built a formidable back-catalogue of music on labels from Crosstown Rebels to her own Echoe and Echolette imprints amongst others.

If you went to the Pitch Music & Arts 2017 chances are your weekend got a significant boost with her mainstage set. Around noon on Saturday, the Italian DJ delivered a mixing masterclass which raised the bar for the acts that followed. It was an infectious set which read the moment perfectly. We are excited to release the two and a half hours in its full glory.
