The Calm

I'd like to think I'm getting better at producing. Wrote this months back.

My friends all tell me that I should just stand up and approach you
but I tell 'em that I'm scared and that I'd rather just stay seated
in this very comfy chair that gets the perfect view every time 
you take a look at the clock that never seems to move

the days go by and I don't change a thing with what I'm doing
maybe someday I could muster up the strength to simply ask you
if you day is going well, or if it's one that's kinda shit
and you wouldn't wanna talk about it at all

I wish I could be even half as cool as those other guys
maybe then I wouldn't have to write this stupid song
just to get your attention

I find it very hard to pay attention when I couldn't even 
take my stupid eyes off how well her lips would move
even when she's only saying a bunch of words that shouldn't 
ever be heard on the radio

Maybe, maybe in another world
one where I could buy some confidence off the shelf at a mini-stop
in there, in there I'd be good
good enough to take a chance
and ask her for a dance

but for now, I'm perfectly okay
with just having her in my days
even just until the end of the semester

Well that's the lie I tell myself every day.
