Just spent a lovely long weekend in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The first couple of days the weather was warm but windy, making recording difficult. But yesterday, the 1st of September was a perfect - 26 degrees celsius and no wind. Despite the chilly morning, the dawn birdsong was spectacular, as if the birds knew spring had arrived.

It was one of those rare times where all of the elements come together and make for a perfect soundscape - nothing to do with me or the recording gear - just pure nature at it's best. I'm going to make the recording into a album over the coming days - stay tuned!

This is a close up recording of barnacle geese with their chicks grazing in Adventdalen in Svalbard. It was made with a pair of clippy Em17 mics and a sony M10 recorder.

It's 5am deep in the Borneo rainforest. Cicadas, crickets and katydids are winding down their night calls but birds haven't started to sing just yet. Gibbons climb to the top of trees and start calling to let other troops know they're around. Birds and daytime insects slowly wake up and start calling too.

Recorded in Borneo's rainforest with Sony PCM D10, Lom MikroUsi micropohones and BubbleBee Windbubbles. I left the drop rig out in the jungle for 24 hours so I could capture a full day-night cycle. More sounds and stories at https://mindful-audio.com

On the border between Gabon and R Congo, the thick jungle gives way to sparser savanna dotted with pockets of forest. The sound of these habitats is more open and lush than what you would hear in primary or secondary rainforest. Longer version on Youtube at https://youtu.be/QPivYjhPxMQ

Gabon Savanna Morning

Light wind blowing through a lonely Rowan in a remote islet in  the archipelago of Luvia, Finnish West Coast.

The white noise generated is lower and stronger that one could expect, and could be imagined to be a little like waves coming onshore or similar.  I thought to name this " The River in the Rowan" referring to Joan Baez ;- At 6.18 a Greenfinch calls for a moment, otherwise no other birds or sounds. Listen with headphones, thanks!
