_A few memories from Simone Bauer about our festival La Vallée Électrique 2022:

"The warmth of the sun on my skin, the sound of music that blends with the sound of the surrounding environment, the surrounding smiles.

I had the pleasure of playing at this beautiful festival, located in a valley with a stream running through it and surrounded by trees.

Three days of complete immersion in nature and music, where I played live for the first time with this musical project, for me, it was a great emotion to propose my music live in this way, it is certainly a moment that I will always remember with joy.

For me, it was also the opportunity to meet many artists and friends for the first time after years of contacts only via internet and to meet many new ones.

I can't wait to come back for the next edition, but this time to dance."

Next guest on EMC Atmospheres is Marco Ragni

Marco Ragni is an Italian DJ and producer. His longstanding residency at Serendipity Club, as well as involvement in projects like Dancity Festival & Rumore Bianco @matteo-trenta , has allowed him to craft a distinctive style over the years that transcends genres, easily navigating ambient, downtempo, tribal, and techno, often characterized by the seamless fusion of psychedelic rhythms and hypnotic sounds.
His extensive background includes owning the record shop Mondo Muzique in Foligno, contributing significantly to the @melantonia Collective based in Berlin, and being one of the minds behind Sintesi Festival.
Since 2014, he has been one half of the @plants-army-revolver duo, and is now active as one half of the Absira project with Spanish artist @absismusic , debuting at @espacio-perpendicular this year. The mix recorded in Trevi, It's a slow crawl through daydreamy landscapes and meditative ambient, punctuated by rarefied vocal whirls and Tribal-Kraut moments.
It’s dedicated to Jonathan (JS), a dear friend who recently passed away.

Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

Exploring the unknown inevitably brings surprises, and the magical sound universe we are traveling in only delivers good ones! As we survey The Continuum, we have been blessed with a new sonic territory to scout. The host welcoming us to this new musical biome is no other than David Ortolà aka d_o_ppelgaenger. 

It was a while ago when we discovered David’s d_o_ppelgaenger moniker. It was in a mystical hut in the forest, in the middle of nowhere, lost in Spain, surrounded by friends. His performance left a mark on us, so we couldn’t be more honored to welcome him to our Continuum adventures. 

The music of d_o_ppelgaenger is far from convention. Always in restless motion between introspective or atmospheric moments, and emotional melodic passages. No bread and butter ambient here: one second you are in a concrete avant-garde sounding scape, and the next a broken beat is gently stroking your hips. Moments of submerged deep techno, touches of noise. A push and pull, a back and forth, a conversation held from the furthest corners of sound. 

‘Restless’ fits David quite well. Composer, producer, performer and professor. As a solo artist, he has composed multiple electronic, ambient and techno works, modular scores as Grooves #1 (2017) and Déjà vu (2024), or unique musical events such as Efímeras for 20 Pianos (2011). He is also half of the revered act Pajaro Dune together with Estrato Aurora. They have performed at beloved events like Espacio Perpendicular, Parallel, and released on labels like Alpenglühen or Grabaciones Perpendiculares. They also recently launched their own label, Sediments, featuring the recording of that magic forest hut performance I told you about. Not to be missed. 

What about his gift to The Continuum? d_o_ppelgaenger brings a live recording of his performance for the 8th edition of the Volumens Festival. His spell took over the Jardí del Centre d’Arts Digitals Bombas Gens in València, on the 17th of October last year. Not by chance and always pushing the envelope, the live set is designed based on (8x2)+1=17 numerical proportions. Another flawless live execution of the sound we described above. Get ready for a mesmerizing experience by the maestro d_o_ppelgaenger. Thank you for opening the gates to your music land.

The Continuum: d_o_ppelgaenger

Unfurling again; a soft emergence. Cyclical seasonal patterns are regaining momentum. An
unravelling fern, the pollen haze. As the days expand in the Western hemisphere – sunlight
hours growing hour upon hour until midsummer – the warmer weather signals a quiet
reawakening.

A symbol of abundance and renewal, the fountain depicts Diana of Ephesus – a serene,
maternal figure rooted in ancient Eastern traditions. Her chest is adorned with multiple rounded
forms – often interpreted as breasts, though some scholars suggest gourds, eggs, or animal
testicles – evoking fertility and the continuous nourishment of life.

Samuel van Dijk a.k.a. VC-118A’s achingly beautiful melancholic moods and roomy, absorbing grooves have distinguished him as one of the Netherlands’ most compelling talents.

With releases on @delsinrecords, @frustratedfunk, @tabernacle-records, @astralindustries and @silent-season, van Dijk’s productions play with contrasting textures and moods to construct distinctive soundscapes fusing elements of electro, techno, dub, and ambient. His thrilling, immersive performances at Tresor and Griessmuehle (Berlin), Fuse (Brussels), Concrete (Paris) and Trouw (Amsterdam), as well as festivals such as @parallelfestival under his numerous aliases (VC-118A, Mohlao, @multicastdynamics) have further cemented his status as a master craftsman, his unique sound eluding classification.

Van Dijk’s Patterns of Perception 63 sees him strip the VC-118A sound back to the essentials, blending contrasting elements in a science-fiction inspired exploration of abstract worlds, decompression, and escape. This stark, intricately-realised and captivating ambient-focused selection takes the listener to distant, eerily familiar and hauntingly beautiful places.
