LA based photographer Father Hickey compiles some of his most treasured finds that frequent his head and often exit the sleeve. Hickey's interest in records commenced around his youth; scoping YouTube for samples to make Hip Hop beats as affording wax was out of reach. This mix contains some of the cuts that will be making their way on to Big Nice - a record label he is launching this summer carrying Jazz-Funk and Rare-Groove, sifted from 45s of the 70s and 80s. The project is dedicated to recovering, preserving, and presenting the unique and quietly sensational sounds in music that spanned the second half of the 20th century.

Musically this has translated, to a beautiful series of works, inspired by musical cultures around the world, this Deep House album is infused with jazz, psychedelia , tribal and heartwarming sounds and grooves.
With exception to collaboration with Kudo Sol and Ilja Gussarov (on tracks B1 & C1 respectively) all instruments, as ever, are played, recorded, rearranged and mixed by Humble B Flat, with a more sample based approach to the rhythmic grooves.

"In The Basement" w/ Noise In My Head

The first collector to introduce her/himself on "5918mins.“ is "exte82“ aka veterinarian Üllar Siir from Tallinn, Estonia. Üllar delivers 72 minutes of Rare Psych (aka those 7inches that you only come across once in your life-time, if ever). Within the mix, he proves his uncompromising commitment to music, far detached from genre-hypes. 

While he is certainly one of the most-respected out there (just ask Soul-fanatico Jeremy Underground),  we found Üllar’s focus on the essence of what it means to be a music-collector particularly impressive. Üllar digs completely in his own realm. His taste is so distinct that we even got into the habit of describing certain music as "exte-type-records“. Together with his ability to casually pull out tracks that leave you speechless (e.g. 3rd track in this mix), it was instantly clear that he had to do the first mix in this project (and we’re very happy it came together!).
