"Born and raised in Perugia (IT), Aka Hyoo (Gabriele) moved to Amsterdam in 2018 after his graduation at the Design University of San Marino, and an internship in Videomapping in Florence, bringing with him a rich background in design, visual art and projection mappings.
He runs @decadanceamsterdam together with Aritmia Sonora - an event, label, and mix series based in Amsterdam.
His passion for meticulously crafted sounds, mix intricately popular and underground music into storytelling landscapes from both international and Italian artists. Inspired by trip hop, dub, downtempo, and idm, he combines deep basslines and sharp glitches to cinematic sounds, while industrial and electrical feelings found their way throughout techno rhythms, creating vivid and otherworldly sonic experiences. It is a fusion of obscure atmospheres, intricate drum patterns, uplifting melodies and nostalgia."

Traditionally, knucklebones were used for divination by shamans around the world. They were also used for games of luck like Astragaloi in the Mediterranean or communal pass times like Shagai Kharakh in Mongolia. The sound they make when they are thrown is crisp and unpredictable due to their irregular form and density, so knucklebones were used to make percussive elements of music too. Scholars once used them for arithmetic and counting, bridging the practical and the creative. 

For me, Knucklebones is a tribute to my musical journey and the many people who’ve filled my mind with beats, breaks, and melodies along the way. It’s a way of looking back to find inspiration for what’s to come. It is a foray into the process of writing music that is unbound by my own creative restraints and provides release to the sounds locked away in my head. Many knuckles were satisfyingly cracked while writing this one, so I hope it provides some release to you too as you listen and dance.
