In Geneva, Switzerland, the first local transport networks were born during the period of the Industrial Revolution, which saw a rapid growth of the urban agglomeration and consequent strong demand for a resolving service. However, it was not until 1977 that the current Geneva Public Transport agency (French: Transports Publics Genevois, TPG) took over and replaced the services linked to the existing channels.
To date, TPG is an autonomous establishment under cantonal public law with a fleet of 426 vehicles. These use the public transportation network provided from the canton of Geneva, some municipalities in the canton of Vaud, and some French departments of Ain and Haute Savoie.
