Sadly, the only time of day you can get some true peace and quiet in Sydney is between 12 midnight & about 5am! 

This sample was recorded just after midnight at Jibbon Beach in the Royal National Park. Despite the wild sounding surf, it was actually quite calm.

At first listen it might seem like a featureless recording, but give it a few minutes on the headphones and I'm sure you'll find it as relaxing as I did!

Afternoon in Bardia National Park, Nepal, and the gentle sounds of insects fill the warm air. From the riverside vegetation, Red-vented Bulbuls call cheerfully & a pair of Oriental Pied Hornbills fly overhead. In the river, fish occasional skim across the surface, wary of the kingfisher perched nearby.

I visited Sri Lanka's Sinharaja rainforest during the monsoon season with the hope of recording some of it’s unique wildlife, but the torrential rain forced me to spend most of my time sheltering inside a lodge! However on the final morning of my stay the rain eased for a few hours and I had a brief opportunity to record the sounds you hear on this album.

First of two recordings of the birds that live in the temple grounds around Angkor, Cambodia. We hear Red-breasted Parakeets and the occasional single note call of an Alexandrine Parakeet.

Another amazing day is coming to an end at the base of this great mountain. Day turns into night in a still ambience. Birds sound in steady calls, some return to their nests and shelters while others are only starting their nocturnal routine. Howlers fill the air with their thick voices that travel from far away. The forest seems distinctively mellow and in tranquility. As night falls, insects become more and more intense. It’s been an incredible day marked by green flora, magnificent fauna and amazing rivers of cold water and blue tones. All this experience wraps up in this great Dusk.

Quiet evening, after rain, in forest near Lake Winona in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, Sept 1, 2012.  Compilation of extracts from a 30+ min recording made just after sunset.  The obvious bird is a pileated woodpecker.  Don't know what the other birds are.   Crickets and cicadas throughout.  Recording made using a handheld parabolic mic.  There were many mosquitoes attacking, so there is some mic handling noise.   [location: 34° 47.732' N 92° 52.358' W]
