I 1988 blev dansksproget hiphop kickstartet med MC Einars debutalbum. Men inden da havde der været et halvt årti med parodier og revy-rap og funkbands, der lige skulle have et enkelt nummer på deres album med forsøg på rap. Populærkulturen havde straks gjort sig lystig over dette nye uforståelige og ‘umusikalske’ fænomen.

Moderlandet selv havde også en indledende periode, hvor nogle af de største komikere sprang ud som MC’s befriet for rytmesans - Rodney Dangerfield blev til “Rappin’ Rodney”, Mel Brooks lavede en rap som Hitler og Shawn Brown lavede en rap som John Wayne - blandt meget andet.

Det meste var ironisk og noget så kækt. Komikerne var clueless, og musikerne var kluntede, men “stivbenet corny frikadelle-kapitalisering på de nye spændende bølger fra New York” er en fascinerende subgenre. Ingredienserne var slagbas og synth-horn og ikke mindst firkantede beats fra førstegenerations-trommemaskiner. Lad os da samle det hele på ét sted!

Et mixtape med ALT dansk musik med forsøg på RAP fra før 1988. Ideen er mindst 15 år gammel og kom ud af hele min altopslugende interesse for obskur dansk musik, affødt af “Knust Kunst” projektet, NU skal det være. Der er så mange WTF-øjeblikke, især tekstligt, hvor man tænker HVEM VAR PUBLIKUMMET TIL DET HER?!

I arbejdet er jeg blevet helt glad for slap slagbas - og overrasket over hvor mange der i interviews, booklet-tekster og på klistermærker på coveret har claimet at lave “den første rap på dansk”! Her er ALT det, jeg har samlet sammen - som jeg virkelig tror er meget, meget tæt på en komplet samling. Nogle var landeplager, langt de fleste langt under radaren.

Jalapeno Records are celebrating their 25th anniversary in the business. From a humble start in a basement recording studio on Holloway Road to a quarter century anniversary celebrated from their Brighton offices - Jalapeno Records has been an indie label with a mission - to bring the funk to the masses. Along the way that has taken in so many genres from chill to house, gospel to soul, breaks to drum & bass but it has all had a common thread running through it - the funk.

The label are marking the occasion with the release of a 3LP compilation featuring some of label boss Trevor Mac's favourite dancefloor gems from across the years.

For me, Jalapeno Records has been one of my absolute favourite imprints from the very beginning - hardly any other label has been and still is as present in my DJ sets and radio shows on Radio Z 95.8 Nuremberg.

25 YEARS JALAPENO RECORDS - a welcome occasion to pay tribute with this mix, for which I have selected 12 tracks from the anniversary compilation + one track from the The Allergies latest "Season EP".

I wasn't planning on making a Christmas Mix but it sort of morphed into one. Using the program Mixed In Key i set some parameters and literally slapped some mid tempo beats into Ableton. A few of the tunes were Christmas edits and so here we are.
