Early Jacker - Promessas EP

Percebes is releasing its third record since its inception in February, well before its first birthday. Bent on showcasing Portugal’s most talented “under the radar” producers and musicians, the new record is authored by one of the countries most well kept secrets: Early Jacker.
Early Jacker is famed music producer Hugo Vinagre, a master of disguise, who is also known as Miguel Torga or Turista. Vinagre has a detailed yet minimalistic approach to production As Early Jacker he explores pure underground House Music, inspired by a dubby take on the New York House school.
Hugo has performed everywhere in Portugal, from major festivals (Boom, Waking Life, Lisboa Electrónica) to all the top clubs (Lux-Frágil, Indústria, etc). But his music has only recently begun to get discovered by the outside world.
For Percebes, Vinagre has developed a full EP titled “Promessas”, with three originals and a remix. The first track, “The Promises You Break”, is a relentless chord groove caressed with sexy vocals, woven into a huge sounding sharp drum kit. There is clear pop sensitivity at work as the track is a real ear worm and works incredibly well in very different scenarios, from early night intro selections, to a full on dance floor banger option. Next comes “Dont Dub”, where Early Jacker skanks his way into the truest dub vibes, with a clear “Kingston meets Berlin” approach… hints of Vinagre’s taste for all things Rhythm & Sound are clear, both the perfect production and the smart sound palette reveal the track’s irresistible club appeal.
Flip side for “Set You Free”, a soulful hypnotic banger in true old school Deep Dish and Murk fashion, sounding like 2018 is a footstep away from 1994. It’s a real trip down memory lane for everyone who enjoyed releases from early WARP, Tribal, Pagan or Toko… like a crazy Red Zone Dub reworked by a top of his game Danny Tenaglia and mixed by Carl Craig as Paperclip People. The remix of the original is left to Lisbon’s own Hélder Russo (cult producer with brilliant releases on Groovement and Tomorrow Is Now, Kid! under his belt) who spins it on it’s head for a broken beat deep funk number that sounds like Prince, Dego and Kenny Larkin are having fun in the studio.
With four diverse cuts that are fun and addictive, and a laid back moody remix, Early Jacker’s “Promessas EP” is a must have for anyone who is serious about their true school deep house, mastered to perfection by label head Ka§par to work wonders on any dance floor, guaranteed.

In 1987, Filippo Povelato was just 13 years old when his life changed forever. Born in the magical city of Venice, Italy, he grew up surrounded by canals, art, and tradition. But one evening, while tuning an old radio, Filippo stumbled upon something that sounded like it came from the future: pulsating beats, hypnotic melodies, and rhythms that seemed alive. It was electronic music, and from that moment, he was hooked.

As Filippo dove deeper into this new world, his room became filled with tapes of artists like Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Jean-Michel Jarre, and the mesmerizing sounds of Ryuichi Sakamoto. But what truly captured his imagination was the music coming out of the underground scene, with names like Leo Mas, Fabrice, and Jemolotto leading the way. These pioneers gave him a glimpse of a new world where music could break boundaries and create freedom.

By 1991, at the age of 17, Filippo was ready to leave Venice behind. His first destination? Ibiza. The Balearic island was a paradise where the Mediterranean sun met endless nights of music. There, he experienced firsthand the magic of Leo Mas and Fabrice, who were reshaping the sound of the island with eclectic, genre-blending sets. Filippo spent every night dancing under the stars, soaking in the energy of the island’s legendary clubs like Amnesia and Ku. Those long, euphoric nights cemented his dream of dedicating his life to electronic music.

From Ibiza, Filippo’s journey took flight. He traveled to London, where the rave scene was at its peak, and discovered the raw power of acid house. In Detroit, he explored the origins of techno, where machines and soul collided to create a futuristic sound. Miami introduced him to the vibrant fusion of house and Latin rhythms, while Barcelona and Valencia offered him a mix of coastal charm and cutting-edge beats.

By the late 1990s, Filippo ventured to Bali, where music met nature in harmony. He played at secluded beach gatherings as the sun dipped below the horizon, blending ambient sounds with deep grooves. Southeast Asia became a second home. From Saigon to Shanghai, he absorbed the energy of bustling metropolises, while Thailand’s islands—Koh Samui, Bangkok, and Phuket—gave him a taste of hedonistic paradise.

Through all his travels, Filippo’s record collection grew, becoming a living archive of his journey. By the time he hit his thirties, he wasn’t just collecting music—he was creating experiences. His DJ sets became known for their storytelling, weaving together the sounds of Ibiza, Detroit, and Bali into something timeless.

Now in his fifties, Filippo Povelato still follows the rhythm of life. His base is once again Bali, where he balances a tranquil lifestyle with his enduring passion for music. His hair may be silver, but his spirit remains youthful. Whether spinning tracks at an intimate beachside gathering or dancing barefoot under the stars, Filippo continues to celebrate the music that shaped him.

For Filippo, electronic music isn’t just a sound—it’s a journey, a story, and a way of life. Decades after that fateful night in Venice, he’s still moving to the beat, proving that as long as the music plays, the journey never ends.
