Following on from Caldera’s 13 17 EP, Boogie Box invites Otik to the fold for an excursion into fresh and vibrant club music unbound by genre. London-based producer Ashley Thomas is perfectly aligned with the Boogie Box’s desire for unconventional angles on dancefloor-focused sounds with bassweight tendencies, and his ever-growing back catalogue proves the point via releases for the likes of Nous, Keysound and Durkle Disco. 

The EP opens with Blasphemy, a heads-down workout that exercises restraint as it tunnels into its groove. Otik’s attention to detail is plain to hear, as side-chained harmonic textures and processed voices pivot around the snaking rhythm of the drums, but the overall effect is subliminal and meditative. Unshut is twitchier from the outset, using bright swipes of chord and a wriggling bed of sound to shape out the personality of the track. Once again the dynamics of the track are executed with a cool head, using inventive approaches and conjuring up a fractured, nostalgic atmosphere in the process. 

Four Feet immediately strikes for the heart with its front and centre synths and re-pitched vocals. The beat is just as striking when it locks in – a tumbling, intricate construction made up of tiny shards of organic matter falling in loose but purposeful unison. Metrist, fresh from a recent drop on Timedance, steps up with a remix of Four Feet that does away with the emotive elements and instead opts for a future-shocking trip into pure electronica. Largely drawing on the complex percussion, Metrist uses those clattering textures as a springboard into chemically-treated sound design acrobatics and leftfield rave energy. 

Both the originals and remix alike opt for inventive creative decisions over dancefloor functionality, but never at the expense of the club potential of the resulting tracks. This is music that positively celebrates the breaking down of barriers, taking the notion of dance music somewhere exciting and new, but importantly somewhere it still bangs.

Moroccan-born, New York-based artist Bergsonist is someone we’ve been a fan of for a while. Trying to keep a track of her production output is a wild, exhilarating ride as she’s released hundreds of tracks across various labels and her regularly updated Bandcamp page. Her last album ‘Middle Quest’ on Optimo Music was highly regarded and following hot on the heels is her debut for Berlin-based imprint Hypercolour. Featuring Missouri based singer/songwriter Tonina on the lead single, 'Womankind’s Beauty' melds together meditative ambience and cosmic electro as found on ‘Killed By Aids’.

The car raced through the city beneath the glow of the street lights. They illuminated the road ahead as the evo raced towards the finish line. In pursuit was a collection of cars and bikes, they whizzed by startled pedestrians and onlookers sat perched on street corners in bars and cafes. The city was lawless after dark, chaos unfolded beneath the black of night as the racers and mischievous came out to play beneath its cloak. The engines roared as the city sprung to life. 

Duswunder is set to release a new EP on All Centre, a record label which seems to always be ahead of the curve and plotting behind the scenes. Each release is as startling as the last and the latest doesn't fail to disappoint.

With remnants of yesterday plastered across our faces, sweat-lined T-shirts and unnecessary sunglasses draw glares from the neighbours. The brave few, venturing from the safety of drawn blinds to collect gum and elixirs for the weary, in aid of the party continuum. The chances of a fresh and ready Monday morning slowly slipping through fingers like so many spilt pints. Stepping in to the off license, equipped with loose mental notes of preferred drinks and pockets full of small change makes an already complicated task even more daunting. No rest for the wicked.

Out on fresh-faced South-London label Twin System is their Victim of the System charity compilation. With 28 tracks of varied production, foraying into the melodic, chaotic and everything in-between, and with all profits going to Brixton Soup Kitchen, what's not to love? Ransom Note's pick is DJ Baklava's '10 AM Stella Run', a moody foray in to anxious mediation. The track's low-strung halftime groove, competing rhythms and acidic baseline motif makes for compulsory head nodding.

this is an unreleased track from last year that unfortunately never came to fruition as an EP package.
it was envisioned as a small pressed/lathe 12" release but seeing as the r🅾️na is hitting pretty hard, cant imagine it happening in the next 1-2 years, which is fine.
