Label co-founder JKriv delivers a trio of all-original cuts on his Something Else EP, bringing together a cast of featured hometown Brooklyn talent to center dynamic songwriting with club-ready vibes. On the A1 title track, a playful funk-laden bassline lays the foundation for an explosive hook and soaring vocal performance from Brandon Markell Holmes. Dynamic live instrumentation takes center stage in the soulful Try Again, which builds to an anthemic peak as guests Nic Hanson and Phenomenal Handclap Band intone the song’s hopeful message.

On the flip, the laid-back boogie groover Shoulda Been Me slow-burns with heavy bass, percussive rhythms, and serene synth-work to support the layered vocal textures by Toribio (of Conclave). Detroit legend Alton Miller takes the tune in a classic soulful deep house direction, with a bouncing rhodes pattern revolving over solid drums, and showcasing Toribio’s vocal prowess in a new light.

C-L-Audio was a rave-DJ in south west of France during the late 90s, then resident DJ at Rachdingue in Rosas from 1997 to 2002. Later on he had several DJ residencies in Toulouse and guested in clubs or festivals in Belgium or Switzerland. Nowadays, C-L-Audio continues to evolve as an artist, pushing boundaries of electronic music and delivering strong DJ-performances and new musical production (checkout his latest remix for Kelton Prima).

Soul Traumer is a prolific and inspired musician who has been producing for several years and signed releases on various labels such as Poolside, Audio Dualism, Glitch Records Metrosolis, Spin66, Beatscope (…) while making numerous remixes for artists of international fame like Mangotronique, Bonnie Drasko, S-Even, Pawel Kobak. He is also part of studio projects like 2Balzac (with Manuel Perez) or The Cosmic (with Ludho Laverde).

f Eli Escobar's recent Shout album was inspired by his frustration at the state of the World right now (and, in particular, the politics of the United States), then this 12" could be seen as something of an artistic release. Inspired by little more than the desire to have a good time with like-minded souls, it showcases two more tasty re-edits from the producer's personal stash. A-side "Africa" is an inspired version of a piano-fuelled modern soul gem, with elements of the source track being joined by bubbly new machine drums and a few subtle touches. Flipside "Take It From Me", a rolling, bass-heavy deep house cut crafted using rubbery jazz and gospel samples, sounds like a life-affirming peak-time anthem in the making. - Juno.com

Take It From Me

'Understanding' is the B1 of Jesse Bru's latest offering entitled 'That Feeling', and serves as a perfect reminder of the class with which the West Coast producer is able to masterfully curate collections of moody yet soulful samples to create a vibe fit for any occasion.

Prior to writing this up, we listened to this track 10, maybe 15 times, trying to put our finger on what it is about this one that resonates with us so much. Is it the dark, jazzy Rhodes riffs? Is it the driving, Laurence Guy-esque low end? Or is it the stuttering percussion which pieces it all together? Actually, I think it's the vocals - repetitive but never getting old, the vocals breathe a whole new life into the track, bringing a raw, emotive feeling to the table. Really nice stuff - the kind of track that works just as well in your living room on a Sunday as it does on a dark, intimate dance-floor at 3am.

French imprint Pulse Msc is a pretty perfect home for this new EP, which is due to be released at the end of October.

Soul Clap return with a disco infused tribute to New York nightlife ‘Ready To Freak’, featuring the legendary Kathy Brown on vocals. This Billboard charting vocalist was known for her 90’s number one single ‘Turn Me Out’. 

‘Ready To Freak’ is the US based duo’s first excursion on their eponymous Soul Clap Records since their collaboration with Funkadelic in 2014 and features four versions to suit any discerning dancefloor, boombox or Walkman! 

The 'Disco Mix' lives up to its name, edited and arranged by Morgan Wiley (Midnight Magic, Hercules & The Love Affair). It takes the melodies and basslines of the original demo and loads them up with Wiley's keyboard wizardry over live drums. On the 'Disco Dub' Soul Clap's Eli aka Bamboozle and Wiley flip the groove with a Roland RX7 drum machine for that 80's proto-house feel. 

On the B-side, Soul Clap's Charlie aka Lonely C pulls out all the stops for a pumped up piece of floor shaking house music on his 'Club Electronique’, while his 'Dub Electronique' makes things DJ friendly with a bass driven drum work out that that's already had massive reactions during DJ sets.
