Hailing from the Coffs Coast of NSW and originally starting out life as High Horse, the band has been around since the summer of 2011/12. They had to change their name due to the proliferation of other High Horses all around the world. So they left the stables and headed into the jungle as Son of Jaguar. The first gig was on the 18th March 2016 and since then they’ve had support shows with The Living End, Grinspoon, The Bennies, Kingswood, Polish Club, The Hard Aches, The Celibate Rifles and SpyvSpy. The band was also included on the bill for Festival of the Sun in December 2017 in Port Macquarie and has played shows in Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane. Their debut eight track album, King Hit was released in October 2017 distributed by Conquest of Noise. 

The band consists of vocalist Gary Maher, Jason Thorncraft and Ash Gravino on guitar, bassist Joe Hansen and Karl Johnson on drums. The band has just finished recording their second album at Valley Sounds Studio in Nana Glen. ”Gone Wrong” is due for release in 2021 with the hope that the live music scene will be back on track after what has been a bleak 2020 due to the pandemic.

Born out of a desire for nothing more than drinking a few cold beers and playing some sweat drenched rock n roll with your mates, the band performs a high energy show of original material with a few select covers thrown in for fun. Influences include: Radio Birdman, Beasts of Bourbon, The Celibate Rifles, The Stooges, The Oblivians, Reigning Sound, The Supersuckers, The Hellacopters and The Upper Crust, just to name a few.

All members of Son of Jaguar have been playing in different bands and in some bands together for many years on the North Coast of NSW and in Brisbane and Sydney. Bassist Joe is best known as a member of legendary Australian rock band Grinspoon. Together they share a wealth of musical experience and the line up is classic twin guitar, bass and drums that is inspired by 60’s and 70’s garage, rock and punk. The sound is loud, upbeat, melodic, loose and hip shaking, just as good rock n roll should be. See you at the bar!

Rory Phillips is an Australia artist and musician known for his evocative songwriting and storytelling, and musicianship beyond his years. His songs blend traditional country and folk sounds with modern influences, often tackling important themes of mental health, the environment and heritage. He is the Musician-in-Residence at the CMAA Academy of Country Music, was named the 2023 Folk Federation of NSW Young Folk Artist of the Year, is an endorsed artist of Cole Clarke Guitars, Achillies Amps and Buzz Box Guitars and is currently enrolled in his first year of a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music) at the University of Wollongong on the Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship.   Rory has opened for Grammy Winner Billy Ocean, appeared alongside Australian blues legends Ash Grunwald & Lloyd Spiegel, and supported Australian country artists such as ARIA winners Sara Storer, Fanny Lumsden & Shane Nicholson.  In 2019, Rory became the youngest ever member of iconic Australian band, The Bushwackers, (triple Golden Guitar Winners & 2021 Inductees into the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown), joining them on lead guitar & bass, a testament to his ability as an accomplished musician.  He also joined (ARIA winner, 22 x Golden Guitar winner) Sara Storer’s touring band on lead guitar in 2023 at just 16 years old.  Despite his busy schedule, he continues to make waves in the Australian music scene as a solo artist.
