Get Funkier! #95 - 4th August 2022

The universe did its best to scupper this episode, with a no show from my scheduled guest and a corrupted USB stick nearly spelling the end. But somehow it prevailed, with a rushed reformatting and partial reloading of the USB and an heroic last minute effort from my replacement special guest. More on that in a minute. 

My half of the show was heavy on the promos, with new sounds from Folkness, Dr Packer, Ken@Work, The Magic Track, Dexter Jones, TURF as well as an absolute blinder of a track from Magnolia that’s about to drop on The Disco Express. I also road tested a couple of bits that I’ve been busy with in the studio over the last week or so. 

We very nearly ended up with two hours of me as the guest I had lined up let me down, but fortunately I was rescued by an up and coming DJ from Duisburg, Germany. Jasmin, AKA Jay-Kay is the fiancee of fellow Disco Walton DJ BK, and she very kindly stepped in at a moment’s notice to save the day. She’s new to DJing but already getting out there with various guest mix appearances, including one with DJ BK just the day before this one for The Disco Waltons Sunday Service. 

Despite being new to the game Jasmin has mixed up a treat for us, with selections covering disco, chunky retro boogie, chugging spacey nu-disco, some Madonna, some Chaka Khan, even some Prince… what a lovely selection!

I’m hugely grateful for Jasmin for volunteering at such short notice and saving everyone from two hours of me, and I love the fact that she’s so willing to practise and put her mixes out there despite being a relative newcomer. Can’t wait to meet her at ADE in a couple of months!

Co-host Greg Middleton is back for his monthly outing on the Feel Good Friday Radio Show, broadcasting live from South-West London with another two hours of positive vibes and funky, disco, housey goodness.

And sliding into this week's guest mix is Peter Maude, aka Silver Fox, a house and disco producer/editor/DJ also from South-West London, who is particularly prolific on classy mashups, played by the likes of Lenny Fontana, Michael Gray, Street Sounds, Hed Kandi and appearing on the latest DMC compilation.

The Black Light Disco Show took to the myhouseradio.fm airwaves with another all-residents double header. 

Goz and Esteban took the controls for a special evening in the re-purposed Festive Holiday Suites here in BLD Towers, throwing out seasonal donks and tinsel vibes across NYC, the UK, Europe and beyond. 

Goz starts the celebrations early for the first hour, with white hot tracks from the likes of Ben Jamin, The Funk District, Chewy Rubs, Jisco Dazz and Shalvoy pulled out of the presents bag. 

Esteban takes over for the second half of the show, throwing dance floor bombs crafted by Mindbuster, Adam Nova, Stewart Birch, Art of Tones and Disco Maschio to name but a few.

Welcome to my new, monthly show on NDC Radio - called BEYOND BORDERS :)

I've been busy digging away in my digital and vinyl crates to pull together the first episode, which broadcasted on NDC Radio, 9-11pm Friday 31st March 2023.

Criss-crossing the boundaries of house, disco, nu disco, global grooves and beyond… selections include newer, up-front cuts, forgotten gems and rarities, b-sides, and the odd well-placed classic.

Each month it’ll be a new 2 hour mix with minimal level of chat...just quality, underground music!

Peak time vibes, lots of driving basslines, funky, jazzy, synth and acid-laced melodies, organic percussion, rock solid vocals... all the ingredients to maybe transport you to a smoke filled, dark, sweaty club, dancing with friends, big smile on your face :)

Beyond Borders - Ep 1 - 31 March 23

London-based DJ and producer Pete Ellison has been spinning music for 25 years and has a passion for funk and disco, blending sounds of the 70s with house beats, vocal samples and chunky basslines.

He broadcasts a weekly show on NDC Radio called the "Feel Good Friday Show", with a special guest each week from the Nu-Disco world. The show won the award of "Best Radio Show" at the OGV Music Awards in 2022. 

He's had releases on Super Spicy Records, Discoholics Anonymous, Mango Sounds, Spa In Disco and Hot Digits. Two of his tracks have hit the Number 1 spot on Juno Download.  

He runs a London DJ collective called Serendipity who throw underground events and boat parties. He has played at dozens of London clubs,  and has played at festivals, boat parties, woodland raves, Ibiza pool parties and even the dungeon of a French chateau. Long DJ sets are a speciality, with his longest ever DJ performance being an epic 8-hour set.


Pete is also part of The Disco Waltons, a group of International DJs and Disco Lovers who came together during lockdown through their love of music. They host a Sunday night show on NDC Radio, playing on rotation with special guests

As well as Funk, Soul and Disco, he plays Melodic Techno, House and Progressive House
