Welcome to your weekly dose of funk, soul and disco!

My special guest this week is Boogietraxx, the musical alias of producer/DJ Brandon Keeks, who is also one half of “Hot Fun”, an indie dance duo who blend synth-pop sensibilities with nu-disco influences.

As a rhythmic renovator of retro funk, Boogietraxx offers a lens into the discoverse that brought dance music to the masses, but offers a uniquely soulful and modern twist.

Born in Staten Island, NY and now living in Austin, TX, Boogietraxx has an array of influences in his soundscapes that feature filter house, French touch, and filter funk. Growing up on a nutritious diet of Prince, Kashif, George Benson, Daft Punk, DJ Falcon, Romanthony, and countless others, it is no surprise that his music can transport you back in time to the future with accentuated basslines and modern melodies, that guide even the grumpiest of non-grooving folk to the heart of the dance floor.

Boogietraxx recently stormed the dance charts with his latest release, “More Than U Know”, the third release on Ben Spalding’s "Puzzle Projects Music" label.

My special guest this week is Kiu D, an Italian DJ and Producer who has a long history of writing diverse music including drum’n’bass, broken beat and nu-jazz as part of a collective called Mother Inc.

As a solo artist, Kiu D has focussed on the sounds of nu-disco and funk, but often blurs the boundaries of house and deep tech. As a DJ, his sets are an eclectic mix of genres that makes every party go BOOM! As a producer, Kiu D has had regular outstanding releases on major labels such as Masterworks Music, Hot Digits and Spa In Disco.

My special guest this week is Andy Buchan, one of my favourite artists and producers. He’s a rising star of the disco, nu-disco and edit scene, and is signed to more than a dozen top record labels including Hot Digits, Paper Disco, Midnight Riot, Alpaca Edits and Masterworks Music, to name but a few. 

As a producer, his style is versatile and varies from a funky disco sound to a more housey, tech and electronic vibe. He recently started his own record label called called Hot Gorilla, along with fellow funkmeister “Conan the Selector”, and has unleashed a series of red-hot edits and disco monsters.

His releases have been supported by many international artists including Craig Charles, Danny Rampling, Greg Wilson, Horse Meat Disco, Claptone, Bicep and Dr Packer.

As a DJ, he’s played opening sets for a wealth of stellar talent including Fatboy Slim, Hot Chip, Chase & Status, Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, Norman Jay, Friendly Fires, Todd Terje, Ewan Pearson, Superbreak, Graeme Park, Aeroplane, Dr Packer, Nightmares on Wax, Calvin Harris, Ben Westbeech, The Futureheads, Kenny Dope, 2-Many-DJs and many more

Andy is also a freelance journalist for DJ Mag and Mixmag, as well as having a long history of throwing his own bangin’ parties.

Episode 22: Feel Good Friday Radio Show (special guest Andy Buchan)

This week’s special guest is Esteban (aka Ste Hendry), a talented DJ from Liverpool who has been DJing for over 30 years. A regular on the North West of England’s acid house scene in the late 80s, His musical tastes are rooted in disco and electronica, with a strong affection for those early Chicago and Detroit house tracks which filtered onto the dancefloors of northern clubs.

Those mad, sweaty and hedonistic nights way back in 1989 quickly led Ste from the dance floor to the DJ booth - he adopted the moniker ‘Esteban’ mainly because his dad always called him that, but also due to his World Snooker Champion winning namesake making the headlines in 1990.

Esteban is one of the brains behind ‘Black Light Disco’, which he formed with a couple of like-minded conspirators last year. Since their first BLD event on a sunny June day in 2019, Black Light Disco has gone from strength to strength – landing a weekly Monday evening slot on one of the biggest house music stations on the planet, New York’s My House Radio FM.

There’s a huge buzz for all concerned with BLD right now – a loyal following is building up on both sides of the Atlantic and the relatively new partnership with two of the hottest labels out there, Samosa Records and Daje Funk has taken it to another level.

Wahine & De Gama - Spin City, Vol 171

London-based DJ and producer Pete Ellison has been spinning music for 25 years and has a passion for funk and disco, blending sounds of the 70s with house beats, vocal samples and chunky basslines.

He broadcasts a weekly show on NDC Radio called the "Feel Good Friday Show", with a special guest each week from the Nu-Disco world. The show won the award of "Best Radio Show" at the OGV Music Awards in 2022. 

He's had releases on Super Spicy Records, Spincat Music, Discoholics Anonymous, Mango Sounds, Discography Lessons, Spa In Disco, Duchesse and Hot Digits. Two of his tracks have hit the Number 1 spot on Juno Download.  

He runs a London DJ collective called Serendipity who throw underground events and boat parties. He has played at dozens of London clubs,  and has played at Wilderness, Secret Garden Party, boat parties, woodland raves, Ibiza pool parties and even the dungeon of a French chateau. Long DJ sets are a speciality, with his longest ever DJ performance being an epic 12-hour set.

Pete is also part of The Disco Waltons, a group of International DJs and Disco Lovers who came together during lockdown through their love of music. They host a Sunday night show on NDC Radio, playing on rotation with special guests

As well as Funk, Soul and Disco, he plays Melodic Techno, House and Progressive House
