Beatdown (Part 2)

My special guest this week is DR DISCO, a talented DJ, producer and avid vinyl collector from Germany. He was immersed in music from an early age, when he learnt to play the drums, violin and piano.

His enthusiasm for DJing was kickstarted at the age of 16, and this was also when his passion for vinyl began. In 1999 Dr Disco started organising professional events, with bookings for International artists such as Barbara Tucker, DJ Pierre, Armand Van Helden, Eric Prydz and many more.

A recent project was the launch of his DJ agency, Funk You Bookings, which resulted in a 7 week tour in 5 countries with one of Mexico’s most reowned artists, The Funk District.

And in 2020, Dr Disco fulflled his dream of starting his own label, Funk You Records, which he runs with fellow disco-lover La Fusa. The label has already launched some seriously funky tracks, and with many more releases scheduled in the coming months, this will be a label to keep a close eye on 😉

Co-host Greg Middleton returns to the decks this week, alongside special guest Javi Frias. I'm a huge fan of Javi as a producer, and his tracks always have chunky basslines, cheeky vocal hooks and catchy guitar riffs, along with an assortment of other funky goodness. It's a delight to welcome him to the show

** BIO **
Javi Frias is a well respected DJ and producer from the disco and house scene. He began collecting and playing records as a young ‘soul boy' at the end of the nineties in Madrid, his hometown, and since then he has not stopped traveling to share his music through many venues, clubs and festivals worldwide. New York, Cairo, London, Mexico City, Paris, Barcelona, Washington DC, Amsterdam or Berlin are some of the places where he has had the opportunity to carry out his incendiary, eclectic and danceable sets full of disco, boogie, funk, house and soulful sounds.

In the past few years he has begun to make noise at international level thanks to his edits and reworks, published a handful of EPs and singles on influential labels like Street Edits, Tropical Disco Records, Giant Cuts, Midnight Riot, Boogie Café or Bons Records. His music is played and charted regularly by top DJs such Danny Krivit, Detroit Swindle, Red Greg, Horse Meat Disco, Jacques Renault, Rahaan, Marcel Vogel, Folamour, Get Down Edits, Frank Booker...

In 2017 he started his own label Night Shift Records, devoted to edits and reworks of disco and house, where he has released in vinyl and digital his own productions and occasionally the work of other fellow producers. He's also part of the mysterious Disco Pocho label, focused on the soul and funk side of the disco edit, where he has already released a couple of 7”.

He is currently resident DJ and booker of Discotizer, the best disco, boogie and house party in Spain currently taking place at El Sotano, where he has invited and shared the decks with artists like Louie Vega, Joey Negro, Danny Kirivit, Eli Soul Clap, Detroit Swindle, Rahaan, Red Greg, HMD, Eli Escobar, Dan Shake, Medlar, Jacques Renault, Get Down Edits, Marcel Vogel, Ron Basejam, Art Of Tones, Luxxury, Alkalino, Eddie C, Faze Action, Dicky Trisco, The Revenge, Mr. Mendel, Alexander Nut, Ray Mang, Kon, Luke Solomon, Melvo Baptiste, Dr. Packer...

The first hour of episode 85 was an eclectic affair and heavy on the promos, with new bits from Funk Hunk, Sam Redmore, Folkness and others, along with something brand new and a little bit different from me. We covered the bases of nu disco, classic disco, funk, global beats, deep house and more on this little magical mystery tour. 

In the second hour I was filled with joy to hand over to my disco brother Guney Capo, AKA Dr Disco. Guney hails from Gutersloh, Germany and is a talented DJ, producer, label boss and promoter and all round very busy man. He’s starting a brand new night in the area on the 29th July in association with We Funk You Bookings and Deck-O-Dance agency, and I urge you to check it out if you’re in Germany.

Living up to the Dr Disco name, we’re treated to an exquisitely selected mix of only the finest, heavy disco infused cuts. Leaning heavily on hidden disco gems, but mostly consisting of seriously beefed up edits with a whole lot of extra punch, this mix is really something special. Vibes all the way!

Heatwave Disco

London-based DJ and producer Pete Ellison has been spinning music for 25 years and has a passion for funk and disco, blending sounds of the 70s with house beats, vocal samples and chunky basslines.

He broadcasts a weekly show on NDC Radio called the "Feel Good Friday Show", with a special guest each week from the Nu-Disco world. The show won the award of "Best Radio Show" at the OGV Music Awards in 2022. 

He's had releases on Super Spicy Records, Spincat Music, Discoholics Anonymous, Mango Sounds, Discography Lessons, Spa In Disco, Duchesse and Hot Digits. Two of his tracks have hit the Number 1 spot on Juno Download.  

He runs a London DJ collective called Serendipity who throw underground events and boat parties. He has played at dozens of London clubs,  and has played at Wilderness, Secret Garden Party, boat parties, woodland raves, Ibiza pool parties and even the dungeon of a French chateau. Long DJ sets are a speciality, with his longest ever DJ performance being an epic 12-hour set.

Pete is also part of The Disco Waltons, a group of International DJs and Disco Lovers who came together during lockdown through their love of music. They host a Sunday night show on NDC Radio, playing on rotation with special guests

As well as Funk, Soul and Disco, he plays Melodic Techno, House and Progressive House
