This is a home mix that I did to sell in Lotus Records Stoke when i worked there from summer of 1991. This was around the time of my transition from Shelleys to the Freetown Club in Hanley

The Flyer pictured was a Friday night residency I had at that time promoted by Geoff Oakes (before he started Renaissance) and Tes from Introspective if my memory serves me right.

I can't remember if this flyer was the first Kinky Malinki where Addiction and Club Fiction joined together or the second.  Club Fiction was my party started in 1996 and Addiction was Paul's party.  We brought our crowds together to ultimately form Kinky Malinki.

I remember the first time I met Paul, thinking, wow he's loads younger and has a passion and drive you don't often see in people his age at the time.  I really was so impressed by him.  At first we didn't know if it would work, and that's why the flyer was a these guys present party.  But it did work, and the old parties were quickly dropped.

In the beginning we had three rooms and a diverse music policy.  I was always pretty underground.  My love of house started in 87 and I played underground progressive house at Labyrnth in 93'.  Paul brought DJ's with more energy than myself.  Most memorably Matthew Anthony.  I absolutely loved him from the off.  His mixing was Sasha good on vinyl and his sound was uplifting, pumping and energy.  As a new party we already established a unique sound that was different to most and varied too. There just wasn't a sound. It was many sounds and genres.

That carried on for a few years.  Different rooms with a different sound in each.  I tended to play in the harder room, though I've always loved all genres and I've had so many of the Kinky DJ's influence me over the years.  I was obviously biased, but I never enjoyed the music at any other night I went, the way I did at Kinky. 

This mix is my homage to the Kinky sound.  It's soulful, vocal, funky, housey, deep, jacking and  in parts pretty twisted too.  There's a few Jay Friction classics too from 2002, 2006 and 2009, from The Lawnchair Generals, Dennis Ferrer and Tim Green.  

Kinky has always been about great house music.  You can't pigeon hole the night.  If you take a look at the list of DJ's that have played over the last 25 (or 27 years) you'll see exactly what I mean.

Most of all, the night was ALL about the resident DJ's.  Some of the best DJ's and nicest people I've met have played alongside., They all built Kinky into what it became.  

And I have all the confidence that Paul is going to do something very special again. You can't keep a good man down as they say. And in my opinion he is one of the most experienced in the game.. I'm proud to have been a part of it in the early years.

Pete Bromley has been Stoke On Trent's top House DJ since 1989 and it has been an interesting and varied journey for him! Resident DJ at Stoke's first successful Underground Dance night 'Introspective' back in 1989 he went on to play at the infamous Shelleys Laserdome as well as other influential clubnights across the UK. Pete's next residency was to be at the Freetown in Hanley which would see him play alongside DJ's like Sasha & Dave Seaman. This would become the stepping stone to his next residency, the legendary Golden. Pete was the main resident DJ at Golden for an amazing 11 years which saw him play with the worlds biggest DJ's bar none. During this time he played many guest appearances at places such as Cream, Renaissance, Ministry Of Sound and DJ magazine listed him as one of the most popular resident DJ's in the world, resulting in his Essential Mix live on Radio 1 alongside Pete Tong at Sankeys in 1996. Quite an accolade seeing as he has never bolstered his career with international gigs, remixes or a recording career as 99% of producer/DJ's do these days. After Golden's demise In 2003, Pete then went on to become one of the resident DJ's at Satchmo's which has now become part of Stoke clubbing folkelore and his position has been cemented over the last years as resident DJ for the Move and their parties at The Sugarmill, Spode Warehouse & The Underground  playing alongside Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Solardo, Skream, Annie Mac, Derrick Carter, Pete Tong, MK, Todd Terry, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, Darius Syrossian,Micheal Bibi, Alan Fitzpatrick, wAFF,  Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Low Steppa, Dan Shake amongst dozens of House musics elite. You can catch Pete at Back In The Day, Blue Collar Disco & Move events @ The Underground/Sugarmill Hanley, Stoke On Trent to see for yourself why he's been at the top of his game for all these years and still going strong!
