As a DJ I have many fantasy gigs in my head and for the last 20+ years I have chased and filled in the gaps of my Disco & Boogie vinyl collection predicting that the scene would make a major comeback.

At that time I didn't predict it would come via the re-edit scene and thought that owning all the records and spending a few thousand on them would pay its way.

Although I never made the money back, I have a section of a few hundred that I am very proud of.

Here is just a selection to please the dancefloor recorded live at The Underground Stoke, a very enjoyable experience for me and hopefully you guys too.

Pete Bromley's Disco & Boogie Originals Live On Vinyl 16-7-22 Back In The Day

After the feedback on my lockdown streams had been so joyous, particularly from the Hacienda fan contingent, I wanted to share the side of my record collection that had brought that joy during the streams in a live club environment.
The Hacienda was not only a huge part of UK club culture, but equally inspirational for many of us Stokie’s who were travelling up the M6 to experience some of these legendary nights.
Manchester was a real melting pot during this time. It wasn’t just the Hac of course, but other clubs such as Konspiracy & Most Excellent, just to name 2 that were having a big impact on all that were attending the events in Manchester during this time.
Then there were the record shops…
I would make my pilgrimage to Manchester most weekends, like most aspiring DJ’s would. The record buying mecca at the time was Eastern Bloc. There were of course iconic shops that pre-date this such as the legendary Spin Inn and then had other great shops such as MCR Underground which was an Iconic shop for many that sadly was forced to close after tragic bombing in the mid 90s. Not forgetting the mighty Vinyl Exchange where I spent many happy hours.
Afflecks Palace for many was a haven of culture. Clothes, records, posters, all kinds of paraphernalia and a place where people would meet up to hang out. Most definitely one of Manchesters most iconic spots which also had an impact on me.

My old school sets are inspired by the cassettes I heard just as I was getting into the dance/ rave scene as a teenager in roughly '90-'92. Those tapes came from places including Grin DJ's (Vertigo/ Welly, Jon Kelly), Shelleys (Sasha, Dave Seaman, Nipper), and some of the bigger raves at the time including Fantazia, Obsession, Universe ect. 

Everything I mix is done on two Technics with Allen & Heath Xone22 mixer via Serato scratch live.

Allister Whitehead's Return To Shine

With Allister coming back to The Hacienda for the Christmas party at Sankeys on 27/12/16 which sees some eight of the clubs original residents reunited, here with a very special mix which puts together the set he performed back in November 1991 on the first night of his Shine residency,

Following The Hacienda's re-opening in 1990, Shine was the Friday night replacement to the long running Nude and saw Mike Pickering and Russ take charge of the night alongside special guests who included the likes of Todd Terry, K Klass, Sasha and more. 

About the opportunity,  Allister comments;

"I was asked by Mike Pickering in 1991 to cover for him at ’Shine’  on Friday’s  while he was touring and recording with M-People. Not many DJ’s got the chance to play the Hacienda, it was like being asked to play for England!   Obviously, things went well for Mike and I became resident from 1992 - 93 on Friday’s at Shine and I did Tuesday’s as well for a while.  We had some great guests (Todd Terry, Kevin Sanderson etc...) and some special nights, including a few of the infamous foam parties, which were amazing and pretty close to the incredible Nude nights back in 88/89. To play the Hacienda at full pelt was a rare thing for a DJ apart from Graeme and Mike and has provided memories I will treasure all my life. Thanks must go to Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Peter Hook and Ang Matthews."

Dusting down and digitising the same set from that night, Allister pulls together a number of the tunes that characterised The Hacienda in late 1991 including US club hit Brother Makes 3 to open. Union City Recording's hit Mombassa "Cry Freedom" follows up whilst the mix also includes carat gold classics, Denise Lopez's "Dont You Wanna Be Mine", Rusty "Everything's Gonna Change" and the Sasha remix of Jimi Polo's "Better Days".

I’ve decided to remake my first ever and probably most popular house mix in glorious hi-fidelity sound originally recorded over 25 years ago. Many may regard this as the golden age of early 90’s house between 91-93 and no doubt you’ll recognise many tunes taken from various sets including Sasha at Universe - Pleasure Planet, probably the most popular house mix amongst UK ravers to date! Pete Bromley has been Stoke On Trent's top House DJ since 1989 and it has been an interesting and varied journey for him! Resident DJ at Stoke's first successful Underground Dance night 'Introspective' back in 1989 he went on to play at the infamous Shelleys Laserdome as well as other influential clubnights across the UK. Pete's next residency was to be at the Freetown in Hanley which would see him play alongside DJ's like Sasha & Dave Seaman. This would become the stepping stone to his next residency, the legendary Golden. Pete was the main resident DJ at Golden for an amazing 11 years which saw him play with the worlds biggest DJ's bar none. During this time he played many guest appearances at places such as Cream, Renaissance, Ministry Of Sound and DJ magazine listed him as one of the most popular resident DJ's in the world, resulting in his Essential Mix live on Radio 1 alongside Pete Tong at Sankeys in 1996. Quite an accolade seeing as he has never bolstered his career with international gigs, remixes or a recording career as 99% of producer/DJ's do these days. After Golden's demise In 2003, Pete then went on to become one of the resident DJ's at Satchmo's which has now become part of Stoke clubbing folkelore and his position has been cemented over the last years as resident DJ for the Move and their parties at The Sugarmill, Spode Warehouse & The Underground  playing alongside Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Solardo, Skream, Annie Mac, Derrick Carter, Pete Tong, MK, Todd Terry, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, Darius Syrossian,Micheal Bibi, Alan Fitzpatrick, wAFF,  Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Low Steppa, Dan Shake amongst dozens of House musics elite.
