The Black Light Disco Show marked a significant milestone when we took to the myhouseradio.fm airwaves last week - it was our 100th, yes 100th SHOW!

To celebrate reaching a century all residents had been called back to the oak panelled Committee Chambers in the BLD Towers west wing to put together a spectacular show that does the occasion justice. Goz, Esteban and Pookie Knights will all be taking you on a journey through time as we re-visit, celebrate and showcase the music of some of the producers and artists who have been guests on our show since the start. 

It would be remiss of us to express our thanks and gratitude to station bosses Glen Williams and James Hall for sticking by us and supporting what we do. None of this would have happened without these absolute diamonds giving us the opportunity to build BLD into what it is today.

A special thank you to all of you who have hit play, liked and commented on these shows. We really do appreciate you all being with us for this.

VOYAGE MUSICAL 3

I took a break this week, and left the show in the capable hands of disco groover Gregg Middleton. His special guest for the second hour was Iry Sabir.

Part of the “Disco Waltons” collective, Iry is a talented DJ who only plays on vinyl. He started DJing 20 years ago, playing a mixture of Soulful House and Funky House in bars in the North of England. He gave up playing to concentrate on bringing up his family but there was always something calling him back to the decks….. It was only after playing at a friend's wedding where he got the buzz back to playing.

Since then he's been putting mixes together of different styles, releasing mix series such as the Soulful House Sessions, Groove Sessions and Old Soul Mixes. More recently he's started a Bearded Lounge series which offers a different style to what he's used to playing. He's also featured on quite a few guest mixes which have been part of the Disco Waltons family

This was a bit of my brother's fault. He played this to me, said that even the. original was poorly edited together (after 2 minutes it just randomly starts again).
So, created some stems, gave it a new bassline and drums and percussion, and extended the arrangement. Hope you like.

Loaded this into RIPX, and it worked a treat. For once, this is a straight edit. Just added a compressor on the master. Gave it a re-arrange and some light FX stuff. Hope you dig.

Already a familiar name on the Glitterbox Recordings imprint, Dr Packer specialises in creating glorious upbeat re-works of much-loved favourites. Next up is his brand new remix of King Unique’s anthem ‘Love Is What You Need (Look Ahead)’. Another instant classic, it employs a warm, relaxed beat to give that unforgettable vocal more of a disco vibe.

The third exclusive on the EP, Luke Solomon & Terry Grant’s ‘Disco Revision’ of the seminal ‘Wonky Bassline Disco Banger’ reimagines the charmingly bonkers track, smoothing over some of the wonkiest bits but maintaining the disco fever by amping up the shuddering strings. 

Holding down the “classic” end of proceedings is Kings Of Tomorrow with ‘Tear It Up’, featuring the heavenly voice of Julie McKnight. Glitterbox is all about those euphoric ‘hands-the-air’ moments, which this track has endlessly. All music is written, produced, mixed and mastered by Randy Norton.
Randy Norton is a notable and experienced italian dj, remixer and producer. He used to work together with many artists from the italo dance scene in the 90s like Black Box, Black Machine, Datura, Modo, Einstein Dr. DJ. Owner of the label Nortonics. Since the DMN/Nortonics collaboration in 2013, Randy Norton put his name as a remixer to a lot of popular artists of Dmn Records as Lane McCray, Regina, Ice MC, Jockeyboys and 2-O-Matic, and also released a lot of self-produced house productions. As a resident producer of Dmn Records he released at the end of 2015 his new album My Digital Me 2k16, which gathers his best works under Dmn Records and some updated deep and future house 2k16 versions.

If ever there was someone who the phrase “How does he find time to make that?” was about, serial editor and remixer Pete Le Freq is it. His reworks have been played on BBC Radio 6 regularly by Craig Charles, and DJs the world over, and the sheer number of tracks he produces have caused people to suggest he doesn't sleep much.

Pete started producing over 12 years ago, and made a bit of noise with his house label Llama Farm Recordings. He's been remixed by Jay-J, Eric Kupper and Kenny Summit, appeared on compilations with Joey Negro and LCD Soundsystem, and played alongside  the likes of Crazy P, Inland Knights, CagedBaby and a few others. 

Since discovering the things he was sampling were better than the things he was making, Pete found that retouching and reworking the originals gave him his producing mojo back, and soon after Alpaca Edits was born. 

The York based edits label has since become home to disco superstars such as Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, and Mannix. He’s been resident DJ at Sotano in York for the last 7 years, and this has fuelled his productions to greater heights. He’s known for playing 5 hour sets that incorporate both his new productions and others versions of serious disco action.

2019 has seen Pete get a vinyl release alongside the likes of Fingerman, Al Kent and Sleazy McQueen on Samosa Recordings, produce remixes for the likes of Hot Digits and Midnight Riot, as well as having 4 eps of his reworks on his own Alpaca Edits. He’s also debuted at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, and made a return to rock the Toil Trees stage at Beatherder for the second year running. 

November saw him support Michael Gray and Fingerman at Distrikt in Leeds and Derek Kaye in York. The year ended with him beating the likes of Mousse T and Ray Mang in the Traxsource Nu-Disco Top 100 Artists of the year. 

Lockdown saw Pete go into rework overdrive, running a weekly Thursday night stream, as well as starting a regular show on Street Sounds Radio. He also worked with Ashley Slater of Freak Power on some original tracks.

2021 has seen the return of Pete’s That Needs An Edit nights in York, and will culminate in December with a guest slot from Shaka Loves You.
