MANTRA opens the new year with a much anticipated two-track showcase from label boss Rona. Beloved for her transcendent vocals and afro-melodic sounds, the Israeli artist is coming off her best year to date. The prolific twelve-month campaign saw the Haifa resident collaborate with fellow electronic music contemporaries Golan Zocher and Rafael Osmo, resulting in standout releases for Clubsonica Records and UV Noir respectively. Also enjoying success in solo capacity across the year, Rona presented well received projects for Manual Music and UV, while also having her work re-imagined by progressive music stars Analog Jungs, Navar and Stereo Underground. Now beginning 2022 in style, Rona returns to her comfortable home of MANTRA with the double a-side offering ‘Be/Choice’.

Played out over eight magical minutes, it is the tranquil sounds of ‘Be’ which lead the release off. A framework of flickering percussion and meandering nature motifs set the backdrop for Rona to deliver a hopeful message with her spiritually infused vocals. As the narrative evolves, dulcet pianos cascade gently under the surface, with cinematic pads and bubbly arps emerging in a timely fashion, infusing the journey with goosebump worthy moments, onwards to an enlightening apex.

Sitting as a worthy companion and rounding out the release are the melancholic undertones of ‘Choice’. Possessing an alluring undercurrent, its wavy synth phrasing and broken beats unite for a charming glow from the outset. Emotive chord changes and delicate arps add to that narrative, as sheets of dusty percussion and Rona’s thoughtful chops gently push the storyboard forward, before tactfully building to a colourfully charismatic finale. A reflective piece which caps off a heavenly EP from Rona, an artist who continues to push her creative scope and gets 2022 off to an auspicious start with ‘Be/Choice’.

The first release round in 2022 goes to the label chef himself BOHO and his good friend CELIC from Chile. The two teamed up with Bianka Banks. To create a round and massive single release they included her extraordinary vocals in the "Bodycheck". In addition, there is a remix of the rising SPEAKER HONEY from the Usa. Besides their constant support from Octopus Rec. / Desert Hearts and especially Deadmau5. Now she also enjoys the connection to the JAW Family in Cologne and Berlin packed. The Artwork is made by Lea Murphy from MÖRFI Tattoo

This is the digital dump of the Dat master tape, so it's the original old mix without the loss of quality due to the vinyl pressing.
And yes, it's the "REAL BOSS" singing ;)

This is the very original bootleg version as it was recorded on master DAT that June 6th 1999 at 7am after an overnight session started at 11pm the night before, started just after some spaghetti with clams and a bottle of white wine, maybe two! That's the true story, that's how it all started! 1 month later that DAT was pressed on a few hundreds vinyls. A year later, after a few months of very hard work of sample reconstructions, sound alike singer hunting, mixing, mastering and publishing clearance, it was finally officially released reaching in June 2000 the n°1 spot in the Official UK singles chart.

Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me (Original Bootleg Mix)

If ever there was someone who the phrase “How does he find time to make that?” was about, serial editor and remixer Pete Le Freq is it. His reworks have been played on BBC Radio 6 regularly by Craig Charles, and DJs the world over, and the sheer number of tracks he produces have caused people to suggest he doesn't sleep much.

Pete started producing over 12 years ago, and made a bit of noise with his house label Llama Farm Recordings. He's been remixed by Jay-J, Eric Kupper and Kenny Summit, appeared on compilations with Joey Negro and LCD Soundsystem, and played alongside  the likes of Crazy P, Inland Knights, CagedBaby and a few others. 

Since discovering the things he was sampling were better than the things he was making, Pete found that retouching and reworking the originals gave him his producing mojo back, and soon after Alpaca Edits was born. 

The York based edits label has since become home to disco superstars such as Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, and Mannix. He’s been resident DJ at Sotano in York for the last 7 years, and this has fuelled his productions to greater heights. He’s known for playing 5 hour sets that incorporate both his new productions and others versions of serious disco action.

2019 has seen Pete get a vinyl release alongside the likes of Fingerman, Al Kent and Sleazy McQueen on Samosa Recordings, produce remixes for the likes of Hot Digits and Midnight Riot, as well as having 4 eps of his reworks on his own Alpaca Edits. He’s also debuted at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, and made a return to rock the Toil Trees stage at Beatherder for the second year running. 

November saw him support Michael Gray and Fingerman at Distrikt in Leeds and Derek Kaye in York. The year ended with him beating the likes of Mousse T and Ray Mang in the Traxsource Nu-Disco Top 100 Artists of the year. 

Lockdown saw Pete go into rework overdrive, running a weekly Thursday night stream, as well as starting a regular show on Street Sounds Radio. He also worked with Ashley Slater of Freak Power on some original tracks.

2021 has seen the return of Pete’s That Needs An Edit nights in York, and will culminate in December with a guest slot from Shaka Loves You.
