1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

Ludwig Mausberg and Said sur la place are my monikers which I use for my music, performing live, Dj-ing and producing. I'm a 90's baby from east germany ~ so called "Sun of a preacherman" due to my fathers profession. Grown up in a very musical household I was first intrigued by the music we had in church on sunday aswell the tango music my mother exposed me to get me calm while my sister was sick. My father wasn't allowed to become a trumpeter in the GDR but he never quitted and is playing this year in Laeizshalle in April. He wanted me to follow his footsteps but my ignited passion for Hip Hop, Vinyl and Soul crashed with these ambitions big time. In 2005 I had the chance to play my first club gigs. An older DJ and Mentor of mine brought me to his shows to play the first few hours before the venue realy started.

2. 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

Actualy the soul partys I attented in my traineeship in berlin got me into digging more singles. Never stopped ever since. It's an mysterious thing with these 45's because it's an I'd mostly no cover format. The typo and the symbols occure on these little paper labels around that big hole excite me like an UFO sighting.
    
3. One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

It was a challenge to compress an way longer night and dj Set into one hour. So I started out slow and getting faster. I played not every genre but tried to give a nice view over music that I like playing.

4. Where can people catch you / listen to your music?

August Mae is an Moluccan DJ/Musician/Producer who's deep love and passion for music led him to making melodies as a young boy. With his father playing the guitar and his mother being a singer, it is no wonder that he grew up around music, while spending time to play instruments such as the guitar and piano. 
Coming from a strong church going household, he was raised around music genres as: Jazz, RnB, Soul, Funk and 90's Hip-Hop. 

When you spend time digging in to @augustmae work, you can hear lots of influences into his productions. Everything from RnB to Future, from soul to Baile Funk, and everything thatʼs in between, or even is fused together. For August it is important to keep searching for new sounds, to make music with or to combine all kinds of elements.
Currently August is working hard on his “Club Edits/Remixes” pack that has to come out before the start of Summer season.
Other than the “Club Edits/Remixes” release, August is also busy with lots of other projects, with different kinds of talented artists.
There is a shit load of new stuff coming your way very soon!

Well - what a day and night that was! Black Light Disco well and truly launched with a bang on that gorgeous, hot sunny Saturday in June at Brick Street in Liverpool. Thanks to everyone who joined us to dance, party and make it such a special launch event. Genuinely one of the nicest vibes I've experienced in a long time and that's all thanks to the lovely disco folk who joined us. Massive, massive thanks also to the Black Light DJs who took the crowd on an amazing musical journey. We'll be back. Soon. Promise!

A Journey In Funk

Welcome to EP-180 of the NDYD Radio Show. Lately I haven't been too inspired with the new music, remixes and edits that are coming out. Might be just a phase I'm going through cause there are so many talented artists and producers out there but not too much has gotten me excited. In that vein I decided to dig deep in my old hard drives and found so many unreleased (or barely noticed) edits and remixes that were collecting dust from the last 10 years. This is stuff that I don't remember ever using on the radio show. They are all tracks that are still standing the passing of time and will feel new to a lot of people. I have a ton of these so I'm breaking up in multiple parts. Part one, here, is mainly stuff that I received in 2011-12.

I hope you discover tracks you haven't heard before and if you have that it will trigger some good memories of when you heard it first.

Ukrainian Beats & Breaks (mixed by Dj Nail) [Free Download]

If ever there was someone who the phrase “How does he find time to make that?” was about, serial editor and remixer Pete Le Freq is it. His reworks have been played on BBC Radio 6 regularly by Craig Charles, and DJs the world over, and the sheer number of tracks he produces have caused people to suggest he doesn't sleep much.

Pete started producing over 12 years ago, and made a bit of noise with his house label Llama Farm Recordings. He's been remixed by Jay-J, Eric Kupper and Kenny Summit, appeared on compilations with Joey Negro and LCD Soundsystem, and played alongside  the likes of Crazy P, Inland Knights, CagedBaby and a few others. 

Since discovering the things he was sampling were better than the things he was making, Pete found that retouching and reworking the originals gave him his producing mojo back, and soon after Alpaca Edits was born. 

The York based edits label has since become home to disco superstars such as Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, and Mannix. He’s been resident DJ at Sotano in York for the last 7 years, and this has fuelled his productions to greater heights. He’s known for playing 5 hour sets that incorporate both his new productions and others versions of serious disco action.

2019 has seen Pete get a vinyl release alongside the likes of Fingerman, Al Kent and Sleazy McQueen on Samosa Recordings, produce remixes for the likes of Hot Digits and Midnight Riot, as well as having 4 eps of his reworks on his own Alpaca Edits. He’s also debuted at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, and made a return to rock the Toil Trees stage at Beatherder for the second year running. 

November saw him support Michael Gray and Fingerman at Distrikt in Leeds and Derek Kaye in York. The year ended with him beating the likes of Mousse T and Ray Mang in the Traxsource Nu-Disco Top 100 Artists of the year. 

Lockdown saw Pete go into rework overdrive, running a weekly Thursday night stream, as well as starting a regular show on Street Sounds Radio. He also worked with Ashley Slater of Freak Power on some original tracks.

2021 has seen the return of Pete’s That Needs An Edit nights in York, and will culminate in December with a guest slot from Shaka Loves You.
