From the early 90s to the early 00s, I was a club dj in Seattle with a Saturday Night residency playing "techno"--but by today's standards, it was a general "dance music" night--techno, house, euro, breaks, speed garage, tech rock...whatever it took to fill the floor and rock the house.  

It was fun because both my co-dj, Billy the Kid, and I had experience spinning hip hop (and pop and new wave, etc.), so we presented a night that has that same "genre?  we don't need no genres?" approach that I take with Interbay.  We would talk hip hop acapellas, turn it from 33rpm to 45rpm, then pitch it down 8%...and layer that over 135+bpm energy trance.  We would cut and scratch all over techno and house.  We would layer in samples and edits...again, all for sugar rush of the wildest night of music to dance to possible.  

...like, imagine a whole night like Paul Dakeyne's DMC remix of PE's "Bring The Noise"...or blending Daft Punk with DJ Icey...or Porn Kings' "Up Ta No Good" mixing into Jason Nevins' remix of Run-DMC's "It's Like That." etc.  

Well, THIS--"One Thousand Degrees"--the latest Interbay track feels like it would fit right in.  If yesterday's "My Sky Is Full of Stars" was me taking my electronic sensibilities to a modern day hip hop vibe, then "One Thousand Degrees" is me taking my hip hop sensibilities and filtering them through the language of maximum energy club dance music.  

I think Billy the Kid would be proud of me for making this--especially the source of the vocal snippets was a track that we often joked about--"the drunkest rapper in the world", because of that off-kilter flow...which was groundbreaking at the time.  We'd find ourselves in the booth just quoting that track out loud, to imagine what it would sound like as an uptempo club sound...and just hearing the "...one thousand degrees...you'll be on your knees, you'll be burning, begging 'please'" would make us crack up.  

I hope Icarus lives through this one, because I think this track is a perfect example of what my dj'ing used to sound like.  And I think you'll like it, assuming you like fun, uptempo, party tracks.  (Maybe I should have posted this yesterday, to fit the "Satturday Night Massive" vibe of it...but, again, I don't really plan out a schedule of when an Interbay track might drop in advance, once they've cleared the Labs...not usually anyway.)
