Love how the music introduces tension to this poetry!

I take it as an awakening of sorts when you se the light and then try to get others to come out....finding "religion"/inner peace/purpose.

1. I was a sailor
On a ship
Until I tripped
And broke my hip.

Now I roam
About on land
Trying my best
To understand.

Why the compass
Doesn't work
Why my heart
Is full of hurt.

2. Thought I knew
My way around
Feeling lost
On solid ground.

What I'd give
To be at sea
With all its fears
And drudgery.

Every morning
And every night
The sea birds
And their delights.

3. Brisk wind
Off the bow
New countries
In every hour.

Life so simple
In the end
Vast sea waves
Sails that bend.

I was a sailor
On a ship
Until I tripped

Susannah climbs stairs late at night
To a tower top, out of sight
In a rolling tide of swirling cloud
Mist, fog, and the odd hell-hound.

Susannah lives on the earth by day
As outlined in an endless play
Written in part to keep her sane
A mortal in the land of the crane.

In the evening, she abandons that script
Climbs endless stairs, pained by one hip
Gets to the door, it opens and shuts
Lies down on a comfortable couch.

At night, Susannah looks out at stars
Rainbows round the moon, floating cars
Fairies hovering enroute to her room
Flying horses, a witch on a broom.

Susannah’s earth life goes on and on
And one day, when it’s all gone
She’ll climb those stairs just one more time
Close the door, and drink the wine.

Came apart
On that morning
Of the heart.

When dust settled
I had gone
Nothing left 
Of legs and arms.

There I lay

1. I was sitting around one evening
When I heard the angels sing
They were just outside the door
I could hear the doorbell ring.

I went outside to greet them
I stood but not that close by
One of them called out to me
Saying, stay, don’t go inside.

2. And another called out to me
Saying, please just come and sing
But my voice had all dried up
And I couldn’t do a thing.

Again the angel called to me
Saying, come and join us here
I shuffled out into the yard
It seemed a long way there.

3. Then we turned and walked as one
We walked on into the hills
The light of evening fading fast
But I could see the daffodils.

We walked into the clearest night
The angels they did sing
I walked along with them
No longer shuffling.

4. And as we walked, the wind came up
It pushed me from behind
We moved into the old country
The stars shining so kind.

We walked into a sparkling night
We walked onwards merrily
 I felt a certain surge of light
Felt as if I was really free.

5. When at last, morning came
It seemed an age away
I looked around the country bright
Knew just what I had to say.

I went up to the nearest door
Knocked upon it then
I called out, the angels say
Come out or they’ll come in.

6. I called again, the angels say
Come out or they’ll come in
I stood there with the rest of them
And we waited to begin.

Eloise is drawing flowers.

Stitching rainbow-coloured themes
Running in and out of dreams.

Mountains high, rivers low
Eloise in a world that glows.

2. Eloise making up songs
Improvising as she goes on.

Endless steps into deeper meaning.

Wandering in the forest of good
It’s her favourite neighbourhood.
