riddley walker is a great book, and russel hoban was a fine writer. love 'kleinzeit' too. interesting sounds, and i shall listen further.

On December 13th the death of author Russell Hoban was announced. He was one of my favourite writers. He made sense out of a world that didn't make sense; through humour, erudition and bloody good writing. I wanted to mark his death with my own meagre work. I have started four very separate pieces in response to  separate favourite passages but non worked for me in isolation...hopefully together they make a coherent but unitarily different...awkward...and perhaps expressive whole...

his was a genius that wasn't a ploy
it was just genius
in the truest and semantic tone of the word.

example from Riddley Walker...

Looking at the moon all col and wite and oansome. Lorna said to me, 'You know Riddley theres something in us it don't have no name.'

I said, 'what thing is that?'

She said, 'Its some kynd of thing it aint us yet its in us. Its looking out thru our eye hoals … Its all 1 girt thing bigger nor the worl and lorn and loan and oansome, Tremmering it is and feart. It puts us on like we put on our cloes. Some times we dont fit. Some times it cant fynd the arm hoals and it tears us a part. I dont think I took all that much noatis of it when I ben yung. Now Im old I noatis it mor. It don't realy like to put me on no mor. Every morning I can feal how its tiret of me and readying to throw me a way. Iwl tel you some thing Riddley and keap this in memberment. Whatever it is we dont come naturel to it.'

I said, 'Lorna I dont know what you mean.'

She said, 'We aint a naturel part of it, We dint begin when it begun we dint begin where it begun. It ben here befor us nor I don't know what we are to it. May be weare jus only sickness and a feaver to it or boyls on the arse of it I don't know.'

An Intimacy for the sleeping Dreamer

This work is a piece I have been attempting for a while, with varying results up until now. I wanted to flux between the idea of intimate childhood concentration and the adulted idea of play through noise, pulled together by a classically informed counter to those ideas but sympathetic without obvious deference to others. There needed to be a tension that builds without being a pompous cacophony of 'Noise' and without being 'cute' or 'ickle '. 

Anyway enough blathering words. I feel I achieved something with this short track. If you agree please share.
