Steel Power, a well-known Soca band formed in Austin, Texas and played for 25+ years built a loyal following and was a very popular band.  In  this recording, taken from Liberty Lunch circa 1990 and while opening for The Mighty Diamonds.  Members at this recording were Enrico (Ricky) Clarence on lead Pan, Leroy McClean on 2nd Tenor Pans, Vince on Bass, Peter Moreno on percussion, and Cecil (Chico) Oropeza on drums.

Inside Practice

This music was from a an early rehearsal of band I was in and we called ourselves The Essentials.  We went with that name because all we wanted to bring to the table was "the essentials" for playing authentic Ska music from the 1960's.  We wanted the sound to be raw, similar to the sounds from StudioOne and the songwriting was to also pay homage to that early sound.  Adrian (Vince) Zapata on guitar, Art Baker on Bass, and Peter Moreno on Drums.
