The Spangled Sea Calm and Cool-2025 performance

A research-rooted artistic collaboration between composer Jessi Harvey and choreographer Julynn Wildman, based on the mating songs and dances of the Japanese Rhino Beetle research performed at the Evolutionary Biology Lab at the University of Montana. Each movement corresponds to a different stage of the mating process and uses data to create the overall structure, tonality, motives, textures, and all other aspects of the music.

Suite 2, The Six Week Battle

We continue to share mixes and stories from musicians and DJs whose music inspires and uplifts. Today’s guest is Corduroi @corduroi, reflecting on what keeps him going: 

Inspirations lately
I’m in school and work full-time so constantly making an effort to utilize my time wisely. Usually, I’ll do my best to go somewhere new and learn things. Being in touch with nature is crucial as well. Last year I went to Barcelona to attend Primavera and came back to the US re-energized and totally inspired. It’s just such a beautiful place where Inspiration can be found everywhere. The people in my life and around me making all kinds of art are a huge influence as well. 

Location
Austin, where I live, has all sorts of amazing things going on within its counter culture like random underground raves, community markets, and queer fantasy bars. Like other big cities, there is a niche for most everything. Because of right-wing politics and big-tech influence, the pushback from the underground and queer communities here are very strong. ATX is still very much a divided place in a lot of ways; gentrification, corporate interests, and Austin’s reputation of being a musical/slacker-type place are constantly at odds. You can feel it everywhere but especially on the east side. Despite all of this, I think Austin is a beautiful place to live that mostly encourages anyone to be themselves. 


This selection of tracks aims to balance/blend uplifting, re-energizing, and motivational music. Whether that be relaxing indoors with some incense burning and the windows open or getting physically active in the sun outside, taking time to stop and appreciate the little details of your surroundings. These are all songs that have personally pushed me to try new things, be healthier, or confront daunting issues in my personal life. This mix is highly recommended for an hour-long hike :) There’s an unreleased work in progress of mine in there as well!
