Now in the midst of its 11th year of operations, it’s a sure thing that the twisted-disco aesthetics behind Mr C’s party extravagance are one of reasons behind Superfreq’s current position at the very forefront of the clubbing circuit. Operating as both a label and club from its Los Angeles base, Superfreq has come on leaps and bounds since it first established itself at The End back in ‘95, when Mr C opened and co-ran one of London’s seminal clubs. Still bearing that slightly off-kilter but vibrant flex, the blood that pipes through the veins of the label are expressed not only through parties and through Mr C, but via the Superfreq collective as a whole. 

One cohort of the gang is Xo Chic. Originally part of electric duo, Dollz at Play, it’s clear that her individual assault as an artist and fashionista fits perfectly with the Superfreq agenda. Heading down to Farringdon for the first time as Mr C and crew head back to Room One this July, she has kindly delivered an exclusive new mix to help prepare us for her debut, also answering a few probing questions especially for us…

Mr.C live at Superfreq in Room 1 at fabric on 20/06/15

This mix is a tribute to my dearly departed brother, guru, mentor & Godfather of the UK electronic dance music scene, the legend that is Colin Faver.

For the new kids on the block who don't know who Colin Faver is, he's the reason that you're dancing & enjoying the global dance music scene as we know it.

Rewind to the post punk era of the early 80s. It's 1982 & Colin Faver gives up is job as a commercial graphic artist & is working for a record shop in Walthamstow London called Small Wonder records, who signed the first Cure & Bauhaus singles. It was then when the first wave of New Wave electronic music surfaced & Colin was mixing up electronic music at the New Romantic Institution that was the Camden Palace championing music from Kraftwerk to Afrika Bambaataa to Visage. It was this music that directly inspired the likes of Juan Atkins in Detroit & Frankie Knuckles (RIP) in Chicago, who were without doubt Colin's American counterparts in the birth of House & Techno Music in the mid 80s.

Colin remained the resident at the Camden Palace into the late 80s as well as being resident at Pyramid at Heaven & Jungle at Busbys playing House & Techno as it had never been heard before in the mid 80s. After this came Colin's residency at RIP at Clink Street in 1988, Dungeons in Lea Bridge Road in 1989, Rage at Heaven in 89-90, Knowledge in the early 90s & played at just about every top club in the UK that played dance music.

Colin was a regular DJ on London's Kiss FM when it was no more than a weekend pirate radio station in the mid 80s & held down a weekly radio show once Kiss became legal for the best part of 2 decades.

Colin Faver is the reason I got started in this scene, allowing me to rap with him at the Camden Palace in 1984 & fully taking me under his wing, along with Eddie Richards in early 1986 as their resident House Music rapper, way before I was a DJ in late 87, when these two huge influences became my colleagues on the decks too. I have everything to thank them both for as they were my mentors & influences.

This tribute mix is coincidentally 3:03 long & was mixed using 100% vinyl from the 80s & early 90s, is emotional & has been uploaded unedited, warts & all, with pure love from the heart.

My condolences go out to Colin's long term partner Brenda Russell & all those who loved him. Colin Faver R.I.P.

Beyond The Clouds - A Tribute To Colin Faver by Mr.C

Here's my DJ set from my debut gig at Concrete in Paris on Friday 26th September 2015, which they kindly recorded for me to share with you all. Such lovely people.
I played for the first 3 hours & 40 minutes & Josh Wink played the second 3 hours. As I was opening up the floor, I started with a couple of disco tracks, then 80s deep house until the room was ready for me to pull down their trouser & spank their bottoms. 
It was so much fun & I can't wait to go back to play for them again. Amazing club, wonderful crowd & great hospitality.

Mr.C live at Concrete paris

This is the first 2 hours of so of my almost 7 hour set at Superfreq in Dallas on 28/11/15. I started at about 1am to an already reasonably busy dance floor in a warehouse that now feels like home.
It was a quite incredible party. I love playing in Dallas.
Part 1 starts with deep house & builds from there into house, tech house & acid house.

Superfreq Dallas Part 1 - 28/11/15

This is hours 3 & 4 of my almost 7 hour set a Superfreq in Dallas last month. By this time the place was rammed with beautiful people going absolutely nuts, sharing my journey & celebrating life. By this point of the set there were no prisoners being held & things we unapologetically acid & techno. Yes the Express was jumping. 
I hope you all enjoy & wishing each & every one of you a very merry Christmas.
