An instant analog feel jam aimed at classic Warp IDM.  deployed pro-53 ,808, various step sequencing,  obvious breakbeats and plenty saturation to get similar to selected ambientworks on old tapes. ableton is just great this is an improvisation on session view , excerpt 4 mins from couple of hours of a jam.

NOTE: this is intended to be played as a loop using the repeat function recently introduced by Soundcloud. 

Addendum: The looping issue I experienced seems to be an artifact of using Safari initially. Once played in Chrome, the repeat point seems somewhat more consistent. 

This is a bit of a disappointment for me as I adore vinyl lock groove recordings. I would have loved to produce a loop that could be consistently looped on Soundcloud. But the repeat function seems barely useable, and it is definitely NOT operating as a loop should with gapless playback. So, I tried to create a loop that leant itself to the random periodicity between playbacks on Soundcloud. In my testing, gaps anywhere from one to ten seconds seem to occur. I found such gaps really detracting when listening to other's loops (though the material in the loops was great) so I decided to build some moments of silence into my loop hoping that this would mask the inconsistencies of playback on this platform. Disquiet Junto Project 0153: Groove Lock
The Assignment: Record a short sound intended to be set on repeat.

SoundCloud recently introduced the ability for a track to be looped on the website. That is, the listener can hit a button (details at disquiet.com/QVvCF) and the track will play over and over. This week’s project will make use of that feature. This week’s project will also, I should note, inform next week’s project. But you can do next week’s without doing this week’s, and vice-versa.

Step 1: Record a short, original piece of music/sound of between roughly 3 and 9 seconds intended to be set on repeat.

Step 2: Upload the finished track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 3: Listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Length: Your finished work should be between roughly 3 and 9 seconds long.

Deadline: This assignment was made in the evening, California time, on Thursday, December 4, with 11:59pm on the following Monday, December 8, 2014, as the deadline.

Upload: Please when posting your track on SoundCloud, only upload one track for this assignment, and include a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. This description is an essential element of the communicative process inherent in the Disquiet Junto.

Love, Abounding (Chopped & Skrewed Loopt Edit) [disquiet0153-groovelock]

Used my own track - Axial - already randomly generated and waiting to come to terms with. Picked up  Steve Moshier's — No Cause for Alarm (disquiet0153-groovelock) - a solid contrast of speed/density and sat well harmonically. Stacked the loops in PC sequencer, with some re-pitching into bass and scattering into higher registers. Braided a long echoing software synth across to hold it all together and mimic Steve's voicing.

Spoiled for choice with so many great samples ... used a couple more as meat for effects/filters and sprinkled them through. Thanks to:

The Assignment: Create a track from two locked grooves.

This week’s Disquiet Junto project builds on last week’s. Last week, 67 different musicians uploaded as many locked grooves. This week we’ll make new music atop the locked grooves. Here are the steps. Note that there are some options:

Step 1: Choose two locked grooves from the set at http://goo.gl/0s4WmM. You can accomplish this in several ways. You can choose random numbers between 1 and 67 and use those tracks, or you can just select the tracks you most want to work with. Note that most of the tracks should be set to allow, via Creative Commons, for non-commercial re-use. However, if you aren’t sure, please contact the musician to confirm.

Step 2: Make a new track alternating the two locked grooves for between one and two minutes.

Step 3: Use the track that resulted from step 2 as the foundation for a new piece of music. Transform it as you desire, which might include altering the foundational track and adding new material atop it.

Step 4: Upload the finished track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 5: Listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Length: Your finished work should be between roughly 1 and 2 minutes long.

DF-2 In C

This is my first project using the powerful SuperCollider audio-programming language. It’s the sonification of a game of Go I played with a friend of mine (it works with any recorded match). 
Stones of different colour are represented by different synths and (in this case pentatonic) scales.
The synth for the black stones is based on the first four partials of an oscillating rod described in Andy Farnell’s highly recommended book “Designing Sound”, that for the white ones on a bell patch from Nick Collins’ great SC tutorial. 
Pitch and pan are determined by the distance of the last-set stone from the center of the board, amount of reverb and amplitude by the number of liberties of the stone and connections to stones of the same colour respectively.
When stones are captured, this activates the third synth (some noise), whose duration and amplitude are controlled by the number of captured stones.
I also added some random variation of rhythm to represent the changing time between moves.

It would be nice not to need an additional array for the captured stones and to be able to enter the moves via a GUI rather than having to tediously enter them into arrays but both are way beyond my possibilities at the moment.
