The idea of a 'day drone' took me straight to the hazy summer drones of sonic youth and yo la tango so naturally i reached for my guitar, tuned a load of strings in unison, recorded to tape loop and slowed down the pitches for extra dreaminess. From there i reacted to what the tape was creating and improvised some tremolo melodies. to me this feels like grassy fields and buzzing insects. i'd be interested to know if that's just my associations or if it's universal?

Using field recordings of a waste-to-energy plant in the nearby forest. It supplies my city with heat.

Central Europe (disquiet0647)

Disquiet Junto 0657 was an invitation to compose a pice out of overlapping tones that start and stop suddenly.

I created multiple layers of synth pads, each holding a single note of random duration in the key of Am. Next I bounced the audio, slowed it by 75%, and reversed it to create abrupt stops in each tone. I blended that audio back into the mix to provide a low aural foundation. On top of this I recorded a couple of additional pads with held tones, chopped up with a grain stutter plugin. To wrap it up, I improvised a couple of wandering leads with "broken" synths in Cmaj/Amin.

I worked hard on the spacial mix, so headphones or a good pair of stereo monitors are recommended.
