Peter Makto - Truesounds Music 17th Birthday Set / 2021

I can't describe this set. I had 3hrs to play from 4pm - 7pm. I got lost in the waves and the river.
That afternoon was btful and no selection just random tracks, which I hope gave some good momenTS to the people who were there.
That's it, nothing special, but I love this set so much..

Nem tudom szavakkal leírni ezt a szettet. Volt 3 órám arra, hogy jól érezzük magunkat. Jött minden, ami egy laza teraszos délutánhoz passzolhat a naplementével együtt...Ez egy visszafogott könnyű nyári szett. Benne van minden amiről ez a nyár szólt..

INTERVIEW

1. How would you describe your sound?
“It’s obviously been through a lot of changes over the years but it’s always been groove and bassline oriented and I’ve always tried hard to find (and create) cool and original drum and percussion sounds.”

2. Most exciting club moment?
“My first time playing Cream at Amnesia, Ibiza about 15 years ago. A lot of my friends were there and it was just so exciting to be in that dj booth in such a legendary place. An amazing night!”

3. How did you learn producing?
“In 1991 I bought a (Ensoniq 16+) sampler with a built in sequencer and learned to use that, then bought a computer (Commodore Amiga!!) with a sequencer called 'Music X' and a small mackie mixing desk and learned to use that, etc. etc. It was a long, long learning process but I enjoyed every second and I was making records after 6 months - I’m still learning…”

4. Favorite track at the moment/all time?
“Maksim Dark - Electrobirds - on Octopus Black.”

5. Dream collab?
“Thom Yorke.”

6. What keeps you going?
“I truly love making music, after all these years I still get excited when I’m in the studio and I’m always inspired to make new stuff.”

7. DAW?
“Pro tools.”

8. What do you listen to besides electronic music?
“Besides electronic music I listen to a lot of rock music. From 90’s grunge stuff like Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins to Stone Roses, BRMC, The Cure, The Smiths, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, etc. etc. A lot of soundtracks (especially Thomas Newman, Vangelis and Ennio Morricone) and a lot of ambient stuff like Brian Eno, Steve Roach and Robert Rich. I’m also a big hip hop fan - mainly old school hip hop but also some current stuff like J Cole and Kendrick Lamar.”

9. What is your trademark?
“I use a lot of my own vocals in my tracks - even if it’s just a couple of words with a lot of effects, it gives my sound a personal and unique touch.”

10. What makes you laugh?
“Peep Show, Reeves and Mortimer, the Mighty Boosh, Brass Eye, Blackadder, Bill Maher, Russell Brand, Will Ferrell…”

In the early 90’s Peter falls in love with electronic music as escapism from his troubled and abusive childhood. Underground electronic music was new, exciting and Peter’s rebellious soul was soon captivated. His love for music has been constant ever since.

Headphones and listening excessively to loud music not only served its purpose of exclusion from the world, but this was the beginning of his musical journey. After listening to single tracks, he soon moved on to DJ sets, as the long journeys and the artistic freedom that characterized these were something he could strongly relate to.

This was when he started his vast and multi-genre vinyl collection and soon after moved on to playing and mixing these. He found extreme joy in music and started to build his own world which orbited around it. Mixing different genres was euphoric, he became a fanatic collector and a passionate disc jockey.

His sets are reflections of his current state of mind and he often improvises when in the booth to spice it up. He is always lost in the moment and instantly connects with the crowd. The music is a manifestation of Peter’s emotions.

He favors extended sets, relishing the chance to truly exhibit his talent and deliver captivating mixes across a spectrum of house music genres. He's a versatile house DJ, adept at navigating various styles within the genre. His preference leans towards emotionally charged yet dynamic house music, seamlessly blending deep house, progressive house, and organic house. Occasionally, he infuses melodic elements to sustain the dancefloor's energy.

He has dedicated over 20 years of his life to electronic music and as a result, now manages three labels plus the Truesounds Music Promotion and Management. Hard work finally paid off.

He is more of a DJ but recently started to focus on production as well. His own releases are created in collaboration with co-producers and sounds engineers.

Connecting with people and creating long-lasting memories is what really makes him tick. The DJ booth is his true home.
