HeartStream 2 (Slava Ukraini)

For the second edition of the vinyl-only sessions, I explore the darker, more ominous shades of techno. Inspired by mystery, fear of the unknown, and dark corners of the human psyche. And the work of David Lynch, obviously. Musically, I aimed to balance between the beautiful calmness of helpless despair with sad and airy melodies and the more violent side of fear and terror with ominous dark basslines and weird percussion. The subject of this set may make it difficult to bear at times, but in the right mindset it is a powerful experience. Listen on a solitary stroll through the woods at night...if you dare.

We had a rad time with Petko Nikolov on this episode of Lips & Rhythm. The Bulgarian-born DJ, now based in the Bay Area, has been mixing music for over 10 years and took us very deep on an all-vinyl adventure into the night. We recently caught a really impressive set from him at a Shuffle Co-Op party in Oakland where he is a resident DJ and asked him to drop by the studio. Petko is also part of the Sui Generis crew with Dan Sherman, Alex Blackstock and Santiago Lopez , who continue to grow and throw some unique events in the San Francisco scene. This set goes into the cosmos and then some!
