Lost In The Melody

Two years ago me and my son went to the beautiful city of Lisbon. I do hope I get to go there soon again and enjoy the lovely atmosphere, people, music, food, narrow streets and beautiful buildings.

Yesterday I started my small tribute to the lovely city, I finished it today and hope you will enjoy the listen.

It continues to be SO amazing to me how warm the reception has been for this song. It certainly makes the hours it took to record it, worthwhile. 

The final mix was done by the great John Fields and then mastered by the  talented Greg Reierson at Rareform Mastering. I always want to mention my friend Frank M. who without his loyalty, these mixes wouldn't have been possible. I'll talk more about this on my website when it's done.

Grant Fisher recorded and played electric guitar, Randy Tico recorded and played bass, and Dennis Caplinger recorded and play acoustic guitar. The rest of it I did. I am super proud of this track and I was so lucky to have these awesome musicians play on it.

This grateful Dead song has been a favorite of Josh's for most of his life. So, when he and Ross were tossing around ideas for a Dead song to cover, they landed on this one. Ross, being the superb musician that he is, laid down a skeleton for the whole song on his piano, and added his vocals, as well as some synth that you hear at the very beginning. 
  Once we had a solid foundation to work from, Ken added his raucous main drums. Then, to get the effect of two drummers, like the Dead, JJ added some simpler drums, too. Once the drums were there, Josh added his four string fretless bass to the stew. Now that the rhythm section was done, JJ added his Brent-like electric piano, sprinkling magic throughout. Then is was time for Josh to go to work with the 6-strings. First, he added a rhythm guitar, trying to do justice to Bob Weir. Once that was completed, Josh also got to lay down Jerry's lead part, which he enjoyed immensely.
  After the music was complete, JJ added his high harmony throughout the song. Josh also added the lowest harmony in the a cappella vocal break. Since all the pieces were now in place, it was time for a mix. Ross generously did a preliminary mix, including some automation. However, the main mix was done by Josh on this one, in a rare show of his mixing vision. However, we did ask Stephen to master the whole thing for us, too, which he did expertly. 
  Our real goal with this one was to have a song we could show our deadhead friends with pride. We hope we did the Dead, their fans, and their music a service by keeping their amazing music alive. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

I'm not doing any music these days,so I thought I'd post one I did years ago. It's a cover of a Paul Ads song I've always loved.

Paul Adamson is a damn fine songwriter and I hardly ever record covers of other folk's work,but this one resonated deeply with me and still does after repeated listens.
I didn't lean too heavy on the production on this,because I wanted to allow the song to shine. I hope you enjoy and bring a few listens to Paul's cloud.
