The Belfast based DJ & producer, Garry McCartney, otherwise known as EJECA, has been steadily and consistently building his sound and profile over time, through a series of impressive releases for Aus Music, Unknown To The Unknown, W&O Street Tracks, BPitch Control and Last Night On Earth, amongst others.  

‘The Crystal Maze’ EP is EJECA’s latest offering for Richy Ahmed’s Four Thirty Two label, and comes backed with a rave rollicking Special Request remix.

EJECA carves out an energetic slab of audacious party house on ‘Unloving’, resplendent with rolling beats and stabby chords, and topped off with dramatic strings and vocal chops.  Paul Woolford dons his Special Request guise for the remix; skippy breakbeats, spinbacks, plenty of horns and a thunderous bottom end that is sure to devastate any speaker stack when this one drops!

Elsewhere on the EP, EJECA unleashes some 303 bassline action and dark vocals on ‘Standard Acid House Track’, which thankfully rises well above anything standard!  And on ‘Crystal Maze’, EJECA harks back to the darker dance energies that were a staple of the late 1980s UK acid house boom.  Wrapping up the EP, ‘ISWHATIS’ gets ever so slightly twisted with an orbiting synth hook and weighty stabs over a spirited rhythm section.

Rekids regular Markus Suckut drops his third album entitled ‘Heaven Is A State Of Mind’ this September.

When not helming his own imprints, SCKT and Pattern Research, the Düsseldorf artist has been releasing on Rekids since 2015 and is now a core member of the label’s family. Earlier this year saw the arrival of ‘New Life EP’, a mesmerising release exemplary of the producer’s knack for making imaginative house and techno complete with a compelling groove. No stranger to the long player format having released two albums previously, Markus Suckut returns to Radio Slave’s label with a quality eleven track album. 

From the word go Suckut’s album demonstrates his versatility as a musician, initiating with a beatless intro named ‘Escape’, before ‘Breeze’ comes into play with its skipping percussion and loopy atmospherics. Crunchy snares and crystalline synths make up ‘Sun’s Out’ whilst ‘Future Is Not Always Bright’ drives forward with its sultry low-end, ethereal pads and sci-fi bleeps, leading into ‘Take A Break’ and its medley of elaborate drums, living up to its name. 

‘Above The Clouds’ is comprised of intricate notes and soothing chords whilst the machinelike ‘Orchid’ features electro inspired melodies, contrasting to the album’s title track, ‘Heaven Is A State Of Mind’, with its bumpy bass and warping textures. ‘Wonderland (Version)’ is a ghostly acid cut, moving into the syncopated and ominous ‘We Will All Disappear One Day’ and its purring bassline until a moody two-step number entitled ‘Death Is Not Final’ ties it all together with twisted sequences and trippy effects.

If ever a label was to officially let the cat out of the bag it’s Pets. So here goes…
Polymod, the anonymous producer who emerged on Dusky’s 17 Steps earlier this year with the piano-rippled ‘No Other’, is actually longstanding, genre-smelting machine meddler Shadow Child. Suspected by few, the technoid polymath’s analogue signature is scorched down to the last 909 kick. Now, fully ousted, he returns with a whole clutch of Polymod crunchers to see the year out on Catz ’N Dogz respected musical menagerie. 
Three tracks deep, each telling their own chapter in the release’s own neat narrative; ‘Lost’, ‘Found’ and ‘Searching’ all smack with stone cold machine funk dynamics. ‘Lost’ hurls us into the dense melee where rolling chubby toms, a lolloping bassline and the 909 hi hats that have galvanised an entire movement just keep hitting, layering, twisting and turning in a timeless warehouse demolishing way. ‘Found’, meanwhile, kicks through the debris with sinewy 303 vapour trails, all minimal, mean and acidic, sit back and watch as it sizzles in and out of another ageless Roland drum workout. 
‘Searching’ provides closure between the two ‘Lost / Found’ poles. An emotional curveball that becomes more heartfelt as the track progresses; when the heavens open and those synths come showering down you’ll understand. From the liberation of being ‘Lost’ to the vital excitement of being ‘Found’, it’s often the ‘Searching’ that leaves the strongest impression. 
Three trips we can all identify with courtesy of a new alias we can now all identify… With a remix due imminently on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave, too, Polymod’s only just warming up his machines. Stay tuned…
