Christian Nielsen has never been one for musical pigeonholes, but with his new 'Pull Up' EP on Pets Recordings, the Danish producer takes that ethos to its logical extreme. Two tracks. Two distinct moods. One cohesive, club-ready package.

Made not in some plush Berlin bunker but in the most democratic of studios - his kitchen, after the kids were asleep - the limited time and space, allowed Christian to focus on what really matters - the groove, the vibe, and making every sound count.

The title track, 'Pull Up', is pure peak-time propulsion: raw, rhythmic rap vocals locked tight to a driving, big room chassis, built for the kind of dancefloor moments when the energy shifts from simmer to boil. Flip it to 'Infinity', and the mood changes to melodic,   yet propulsive textures with a more a spacious arrangement that's designed for losing yourself.

'I wanted to create something that feels both nostalgic and fresh,' Nielsen says. 'The idea was to capture that spontaneous energy you get when unexpected elements collide in the right way.'

With 'Call The Ball', Feinstoff marks its eighteenth release, handing the reins to Cologne’s ETANE for a four-track trip moving with the tension of indie dance, the grit of EBM and a post-punk undercurrent. On the flip, the title track is reimagined by French artist MMYYLO, known for his slow-burning, analogue-driven darkness.

MMYYLO delivers a slow burner, Dark Disco par excellence. Well tried and tested on the floor, his analogue-driven sound builds with groove and weight, drawing dancers into shadowy tension. ‘Lonely Road’ follows next with a house-infused groove, plenty of cowbell and a high energy vocal. The dense low end provides this one with all its power, as the percussive elements add movement and irresistible layers of rhythm. The vocal really comes into its own during the breakdown, which provides a climactic moment, sending energy levels soaring as strings enter the frame. One that will send the dance floor into a frenzy.

The EP kicks off with the title track. ‘Manifest’ works off a hypnotic groove, with a captivating low end and mesmerising percussion working together to lock you in. Sam’s expertise shines through as the cut unravels steadily, subtle elements adding to the tension and momentum. As we enter the main body of the track, the energy picks up and an uplifting vocal is introduced bit by bit. Piano keys punctuate the breakdown, as the vocal is revealed in all its glory. Sam really ramps up the impact of this one as it progresses towards its conclusion.

Finally, ‘My Goodbye’ closes things out on a more sombre note. A jazzy influence pervades, the mood encompasses various shades of grey and the stuttered beats push things along with purpose. This is Sam Shure in a more pensive state, though things ramp up after the breakdown, offering a brighter second half. A symphony of buoyant sounds combines to create a more positive, optimistic segment. The narrative arc of this cut moves through melancholy into happiness and ends with a more toned-down atmosphere.

Previously releasing crunked up house on the likes of dirtybird, Sound Pellegrino and Exploited under the Solo moniker, Stefano Ritteri returns with the 'Nice Up Your Dance' EP on suitably chameleon-like Pets Recordings. Excited by the prospect of releasing a body of work under his real name, Ritteri’s latest output has already been snapped up by Defected and Saved. The new three track ep straddles the more exuberant edges of house with a skilled and serious production sensibility, and invites UK mainstays Jaymo and Andy George to perform remix duties.
 
‘Nice Up Your Dance’ opens the show with its audacious guitar riff, vintage key work, whimsical vocal sample and relentless party claps, a staple of Ritteri’s club focused productions. While ‘Nice Up Your Dance’ works to tease you into a knowing smile, ‘Let Us Pray’ steps up with a take-your-breath-away bassline, leading the way for the ultra-nostalgic melody line and pitch-shifted vocal. Jaymo and Andy George take things one step further, giving ‘Let Us Pray’ a thick and sultry rework. Here, the bassline truly is all consuming, while dissonant rings add an extra edge to the sonorous vocal sample.
 
A weird yet very welcome added string to the Pets Recordings bow, Stefano Ritteri’s first outing on the Polish label is sure to set tongues wagging.
