actually, one nifty bit of nfo is that the "voice", which sounds like its from a numbers station... 

okay check this out:
i bought a generic brand compact flash card. brand new. because i was already in the process of trying to recover corruption on the previous card (fuk), i decided to run testdisk on the new card. and... it was chok full of stuff! 
all kinds of 2x2 bitmap tiles, audio bytes, operation notes for a CNC, web design files from 20 years ago. and this monotonous broadcast voice that you hear in the trak (albeit, chopped n screwed a bit). sounded like mandarin language (kelvin please confirm?) but file was so corrupted i doubt many words any intelligible. nonetheless an odd find on a "new" product. some sort of residual from on whatever they flashed it with, i guess. 

also, most of the voice files were in adpcm, which is a codec originally designed for telephony"

Searching builds upon the scope of Showerhead releases to date, but takes a unique styling on the hallmarks on electro, ambient and breakbeat. As per the title, it could be typified as seeking something expressive, a somewhat tricky path to navigate in an IDM space more often than not characterised by an abiding coldness and austerity.

Perhaps one aspect of what has characterised Showerhead’s productions to this point is the layering of IDM, breakbeat and ambient sounds in a sonic space that retains depth and focus, even given the myriad details. And even though many of these gestures and ambiences bear nostalgic weight and nods to the past, there is still ample space and possibility for novel slants to be taken, if handled with dexterity and balance.

A truly neat miscellanea, every aspect of this remarkably spotless record bears the unmistakable aura of a Showerhead production. A thoroughly consistent continuation of Showerhead’s work til now and a vital extension to a growing catalogue, Searching is electronica at its most classically redolent: nostalgia-encoded and future-fixed, and glistening with detail and intrigue.

A segue of recordings played back at normal, twice and half speed of the sound of laser light being modulated by plumes of dust kicked up by dropping nuts and bolts into dry icing sugar in a large glass jar. The optical mic was positioned on the far side of the jar and sometimes you can just make out the glass walls pinging as the bolts land on the bottom of the jar.

The slowly building up vortex was made by swirling the icing sugar and then playing back the resulting return to still  air in reverse.

Rather like the oil in water and electrolysis experiments, since it all takes time to disperse, you get a kind of natural decay tail effect.

Sound of Light Through Icing Sugar Dust: Nut Drop Field Segue...

A multi-track recording made whilst testing out  a supremely rare 1985 Mulogix Slave 32 previously revived at Hideaway Studio. The Slave 32 was the rare rackmount version of the Synergy II+ by Digital Keyboards and was the last incarnation of the 1979 Crumar G.D.S. which utilised the identical High Speed Digital OSC pcb assembly. All of the variants featured pure digital synthesis in 16-bit digital audio which was pretty impressive for mid 1970s technology!
