Fucking love what Ola and Krimh are doing and this track really inspired me to do something.

When Jason Newsted, who replaced Cliff Burton (bassist of Metallica's original lineup), wrote My Friend of Misery, he thought of a song to be "the instrumental" one in the Black Album. At the time, the band's last three albums contained a track like this.

However, held by various reasons which will not be explained here, the first riff he wrote in this song has been used and the remaining discarded. During live performances, between breaks when James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich took the opportunity to leave the stage and drink a few beers, he played the original version alone on his bass.

This is my tribute to the version considered, for me, one of the best Metallica songs, though it was not recorded the way Jason conceived.

Quando Jason Newsted, substituto do falecido Cliff Burton (baixista da original formação do Metallica), escreveu My Friend of Misery, ele pensou em uma música para ser nomeada "a instrumental" do Black Album. Na época, os últimos três discos da banda continham uma faixa assim.

Porém, contido por diversas razões que não serão explicadas aqui, o primeiro riff que ele escreveu nesta musica foi usado e o restante, descartado. Durante apresentações ao vivo, entre pausas em que James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett e Lars Ulrich aproveitavam para sair do palco e beber algumas cervejas, ele tocava sua versão original, sozinho, em seu baixo.

Este é meu tributo à sua versão, considerada, por mim, uma das melhores músicas do Metallica, ainda que não gravada da forma como Jason a concebeu.
