John ''Chief'' Stergiou was born in Athens on the 18th of January, 1978.
He grew up in a family with a long tradition in music and he started playing music at a very early stage of his life. He took his first classical guitar lessons and music theory when he was 8 years old.

Besides classical music he played various music styles but his love has always been the Blues music which, according to him, finds its origin in the ancient pentatonic scale of Epirus in Greece. Epirus is also the place of John’s parentage.

By the age of 18 he studied Sound Engineering and Music Production at “Mixing Is Art” with some of the best exponents in Greece as far as Acoustics and Music Production is concerned. (Akis Golfidis, Bobby Tzakis, Kostas Kalimeris, Charalambos Spiridis, Dimitris Mourtzopoulos, Nikos Espialidis, Giorgos Andreou, Panagiotis Petronikolos , etc). Automatically he got into music production, recording with artists, some times as a session guitarist and conductor, other times as a sound engineer.

His credits include:

Stavros Xarchakos,Yiannis Spanos, Marios Tokas, Mimis Plessas,
Dimitris Papapostolou, Antonis Vardis, Lakis Papadopoulos and many more.

Greek Singers & Bands: Savina Giannatou, Manolis Mitsias, Kostas Chatzis, Vicky Moscholiou, Eleni Dimou,Melina Kana, Sofia Papazoglou, Lizetta Kalimeri, Locomondo, Kitrina Podilata, Giannis Giokarinis, Nikos Ziogalas
and many more.

Since 1998 and to this day he produced and worked with many Greek bands of the underground scene such as Nightstalker, Last Drive. Deus ex Machina, Earthbound, 1000mods, Blend, Van ripper to name a few.


Highlights:
• ''Epirus of Pentatonia'' a huge project of 4 CD's, 1 CD-ROM and a 600 pages book about Pentatonic music's journey through the ages from the ancient Epirus to the whole world. He worked as a member of the production team composing, arranging, recording and performing.

• Among hundreds of performances one of the most significant was
with the ''EXPERIMENTAL CHOIR OF DIMITRIS PAPAPOSTOLOU''
as a classical guitar soloist at the Kennedy Center on Washington D.C.
as they were the first Greek Musicians to perform in this
Historical Center for the Performing Arts. in U.S.

• Garry Christians of the legendary “Christians” band sang his compositions, as well as a remake of the legendary song ''Words'' .

Jan 2011: “Phase Reverse” was picked among thousands of artists from the entire world, to participate to Aon Media's ''Gods of Indie Guitar'' Compilation CD featuring ''the best Independent or unsigned guitarists between Planet Earth & Alone on the Sun!'' Their song ''Cross to bear'' will be one of the 17 tracks of the CD and this is a great honor for Chief, Phase Reverse and for the whole Greek Independent Music Scene!



Jun 2011: “Phase Reverse” reached a deal with Brian Rickman (American Novelist). The track “Got Your Back” was the soundtrack of the novel ASCENSION





Since 2008: Numerous headline live shows, interviews & presentation from global Media. Successfully supported Corossion of Comformity, Orange Goblin, Red Fang etc.

They performed for several years across Europe.
