Carnatic Fusion

Manavyala in our Mind, one of our early Carnatic adaptations, became synonymous with our sonic character and theme. Our live version on YouTube that we had played three years ago at my sister's wedding was the first time we had ever performed it. While recording our album IndoSoul we decided to make a studio version of this song as well. There's something about this Thyagaraja krithi in raga Nalinakanthi that continues to fascinate through decades and centuries. Vibrant and positive it can never grow old! Here's our humble tribute to the great composer.

About the song:

This is a song version of an instrumental composed by Vijay Kannan few months back. The lyrics (written in Tamil) and vocals are by Uma Ramasubramaniam.

This song is being uploaded to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Raga Surabhi. This song is a lullaby, a special one at that, set in raga Sahana, the translation of which is given in the song description. Please do share with your friends, family and social circle. Arranged and Played this soulful track as a tribute to the great saint in conjunction with his 250th Birth Anniversary :) :) !!   Hope you all Enjoy !!

EDIT: (11/11/2017) The reception towards this piece had motivated me to start the Beauty of Ragas series.  I have re-recorded and remastered the original track as I was never happy with the quality of the flute recording. I hope you all like it as well now.. :)

Prelude in Bilahari is IndoSoul's take on the Indian classical song Paridana Meechite, originally composed by Patnam Subramaniya Iyer in the 19th century. This violin and piano duet performed by Karthick Iyer and Dondieu Divin brings together the rich tradition of Indian and Western classical music with the violin melody in Raga Bilahari interwoven with Bach inspired lines on the piano.
