Cette conversation a eu lieu en amont de l’événement Briser l’impact sur la mémoire, une programmation vidéo en ligne présentée en marge de l’exposition Lee Bae: UNION.

À travers des processus de réimagination, préservation et transformation, la mémoire nous permet de narrer une réalité ou une mémoire fictive, de se pencher sur le passé, l'appartenance et la mort. Ce programme vidéo – Briser l’impact sur la mémoire – explore la mémoire de ce qui rend notre existence tangible, et considère comment le corps et la nature expérimentent, mesurent et traduisent l’impact du changement. 

Dans cette conversation, la commissaire et les artistes explorent le thème de la mémoire dans le contexte de ce programme ainsi que de la pandémie, et respectivement, à travers le processus de création des vidéos et leur impact. Ils discutent de la réimagination et de la reviviscence, de la manière de préserver des moments, que ce soit à travers l’impermanence de l'art vidéo, et de la manière dont le corps peut se connecter et se reconnecter à la mémoire, à la nature et au futur.

In this podcast, Victoria Carrasco (adjunct curator of public programs, PHI Foundation) meets with artists Patricia Domínguez, Jean-Jacques Martinod and Lynne Sachs. This conversation took place in the lead up to the event Severing the Impact on Memory, an online video program presented in conjunction with the exhibition Lee Bae: UNION. 

Through processes of reimagination, preservation and transformation, memory allows us to narrate reality and a fictionalized memory, to look into the past, the feeling of belonging, and death. This video program—Severing the Impact on Memory—explores the memory of what makes life tangible, and considers how both the body and nature experience, measure and translate the impact of change.

In this conversation, the curator and the artists explore the topic of memory within the context of this program as well as the pandemic, and respectively, through the creating process of the videos and their impact. They discuss reimagining and re-enliving, how to preserve moments, either through the impermanence of video art, and how the body can connect and reconnect to memory, nature and the future.

La Fondation PHI présente, en collaboration avec Productions Onishka, un programme de médiation pour contextualiser le parcours sonore «Marguerite: la pierre». Celui-ci est composé de deux parcours commentés et d’une «Conversation autour de Marguerite».

Mené par l’artiste Émilie Monnet, «Marguerite: la pierre» s’appuie sur la vie de Marguerite Duplessis, la première personne mise en esclavage et la première Autochtone à avoir lutté juridiquement pour obtenir sa liberté en Nouvelle-France. Alors que des traces de ce passé marquent encore les façades en pierre du Vieux-Montréal, la voix d’Émilie Monnet et celles de quatre invité·e·s nous entraînent à la rencontre de Marguerite Duplessis et de notre histoire.

Lors de cette table ronde, Émilie Monnet parle de son processus de création en compagnie de Simon Riverin et Philippe Néméh-Nombré.

The PHI Foundation, in collaboration with Productions Onishka, presents a mediation program to contextualize the “Marguerite: la pierre” soundwalk. The program consists of two guided tours and a “Conversation about Marguerite.”

Led by artist Émilie Monnet, “Marguerite: la pierre” is based on the life of Marguerite Duplessis, the first person to be enslaved in New France and the first Indigenous person to have subsequently fought legally for her freedom. While traces of this past still mark the stone facades of Old Montréal, Émilie Monnet’s voice and those of four invited guests, take us through an encounter with Marguerite Duplessis and our history.

During this roundtable discussion, Émilie Monnet talks about her creative process in the company of Simon Riverin and Philippe Néméh-Nombré.

Originaire de Colombie et installée depuis 1998 à Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal, Helena Martin Franco a développé une pratique interdisciplinaire qui repousse les limites de l’art par la fusion de techniques traditionnelles et de technologies de pointe. Son travail autofictionnel explore les intersections des identités culturelles, nationales et de genre et met en lumière des sujets cruciaux tels que la violence sexuelle, l’immigration et la censure de l’art.
Helena Martin Franco présente son œuvre «Absence à main levée/Ausencia a mano alzada» (2021-2023) dans le cadre de l’exposition «Conditions d’utilisation» à la Fondation PHI.

Her thought-provoking auto-fictional works delve deep into the intersections of cultural, national, and gender identities, shedding light on crucial topics like sexual violence, immigration, and art censorship.
