Azaad steps out with his own new label, Born 2 Be Free, for the first time here and says that the plan for it is to 'break out of the mold.' The man himself takes care of the first EP and shows the world what he is all about with a fine homage to early garage sounds but with a hint of London grit. 'Dubba Ding' is a nice chord-laced pumper with shuffling beats, 'Feel The Rhythm' is more raw and stripped back with loopy, chopped-up vocals and 'Get Da Runaround' brings warm pad swirls and some soulful vocals to a nice deep garage vibe. Three very useful tracks indeed and a great first EP from this new label.

PREMIERE: Azaad - Feel The Rhythm [Born 2 Be Free]

I love playing music set to visuals. Usually it's set to my video collaborations for my live shows, but this time I got to DJ amongst Christopher Bauder's light installation at Dark Matter in Berlin to create an audio-visual conversation. 

The audience in Berlin is amazing too, being the magnet for electronic music people that it is, and not being one of the historic clubs there with their specific musical identity to integrate with, this was anything goes and just feeding on the energy in the room. And there was a lot of energy in the room, as you can hear in the mix. 

I let loose pretty much…. It’s a club set, how I'm into club sets, at least. With some new unheard things in there and lots of old favourites from over the years.

First of all hi, I'm Guns. I ditched my architecture/design career during the pandemic and started to learn how to DJ and produce music in front of a live audience on Twitch. And after three years streaming online, and releasing 5 tracks independently I had the honour of landing my first ever gig. And guess what... I was the headliner!!!! AND it was abroad! wtf?! 🤯🤯🤯

Our next premiere comes from DJ Moonbeam, and is the first drop on SITU, a newly formed Lobster Theremin sub-label. DJ Moonbeam has been known to craft hazy cuts that drift through different shades of the Deep House spectrum. Apus De Soare showcases the producers evolving sound and ability to create tunes that are as apt for the dancefloor as they are for the home. 

Our fave is the title track Apus De Soare. It’s a slow burner with massive filter swoops and stabby chord rhythms. As the track progresses, you feel yourself leaving dancefloor as you ascend out of orbit and into space. Cosmic waves of arpeggiated synths find their way careening the mix, while the thumpy bassline steadies the ship throughout its voyage. Moonbeam has honed an eclectic palette of Deep House sounds and distilled it into something uniquely his own.

It’s an apt name for multimedia artist Max Cooper’s electronic imprint, where the MO is clattering rhythms and voluminous ambient vistas; sound as a vehicle for big ideas. Cooper’s exclusive Bleep mix celebrates the achievements of Mesh with a collection of works from their discography, featuring the ambient swells of Rob Clouth and some especially crisp breakbeat re-alignments from the likes of Reid Willis and Synkro. As a visual artist, choosing a track is a visual experience for me.  As an old school rave-style dancer, I want to hear something that moves my body the way my organs beat within their own syncopated rhythm. The electronic music scene has had a considerable impact on my art so I love to mix tracks as a way to generate ideas for other artworks, even if those ideas never leave my head.
