This recording is an experiment in busting loose from traditional timings and into the spaces that are traditionally inhabited by no notes being added to the song. It's interesting to note that from a metaphorical stand-point, there is still sound in those spaces; just no new aural material is being added, and yet it is. The notes linger, ringing out. They reflect off of surfaces which adds new material to the soundscape. Echoes and reverberations are what I love about doing live sound, and also hate when it is a challenging space to mix in.
I was an entrepreneur for 20 years, I did Live Concert and Festival Production. Sound, Video and Lighting. I focused on sound, mainly. Probably because I've been drawn to it from a very young age. Buying speakers from thrift stores; being oblivious to things like speaker impedance and being in heaven surrounded by speakers everywhere! I ended up with a face-melting Concert Rig that could adequately supply a Festival with sound re-enforcement for 5,000 people. So fun. The rig was so bullet proof that the harder you pushed it, the better it sounded!
I like to explore my mind. I leisurely stroll through its corridors, making connections between things that are being reflected from things I discovered in other corridors. That opens up my eyes to see another previously undiscovered path to explore. I should probably ask myself, what am I exporing exactly? Me. Myself, and my 3rd eye, thanks for asking! I believe it's the key to life, and happiness. To know thyself.
There is a hidden danger to doing this though. You have to come back to reality on a regular basis. Like in the movie "Inception". They have someone monitoring them who douses them in water to yank them back.
Some people are afraid of parts of their mind. Carl Yung called this part of us The Shadow... the part of your mind where you keep things that you can't think about because it's too scary to go there. Like rape, trauma, abuse... but I see the value exploring these things in order to heal. Because shame can't exist in the light. It needs darkness and secrecy to isolate you from community, which is where you grow.
Why be afraid of painful memories. They happened in the past. And for myself, they are no longer happening. I have become intimately familiar with suffering. The best and worst kind... long suffering. This is a special kind reserved only for those that 'god' knows can handle it. I believe it's hella different than getting cancer and conquering it a year or 10 later; no offence to those that have done that. Long suffering either makes you miserable or builds in you character that outshines a million suns.
I have discovered a toughness and resiliency in me that has shocked me. We often think we are a little child, exposed to the elements. We don't live in a storm, we are a hurricane. Love yourself, go see a counsellor, or just talk to someone. Therapist just kinds sit there and listen to you for an hour and get paid $120 for it. Go for coffee with a friend and talk it out. They can sit there and listen to you for the price of a coffee and a donut. Remember that they can't reject you, because the only person who can reject you, is you.
