Code Fish is one of the most complex compositions I've worked on to date, thanks to the amazing talent of Kristopher Bolin, lead singer and guitarist of the incredible band The Bawl Slant.

The initial proposal was to create tracks in the darkwave style, but the result is an experimental work that relies heavily on polyphonic vocals and blends electronic music with progressive rock.

At the time we started the collab, I was taking my first steps in experimenting with voices within daw -- fascinated by AI-based voice synthesizers and especially excited by the technique of creating multiple layers of voices from a single voice.

The starting point for Code Fish was one of these experiments -- a snippet of Kristopher's voice in Die With Me (The Bawl Slant song) was converted into polyphonic vocals. Kris liked the idea and created his vocals in the same style, re-recording his own voice multiple times. His polyphonic vocals have a much more complex structure than I could ever create. 

The great guitar solo was created by the ever-talented Christopher Hardisty, member of the band StillVivid and frequent collaborator. His guitar solos are always a highlight wherever they appear.

Once upon a time, in a galaxy so wide,
A bunch of brains had a question they couldn’t hide:
“What’s the meaning of it all, the universe, and life?”
So they built a supercomputer to end all strife.

Deep Thought was its name, with circuits vast and bright,
They asked it the question, and waited day and night.
For seven million years, it hummed and it whirred,
Till finally one day, it said a single word.

The crowd went silent, then they all began to shout,
“What’s that supposed to mean? What’s it all about?”
Deep Thought just shrugged, if a computer could do so,
Said, “You asked for the answer, but the question, I don’t know.”

“You see,” it said with a digital sigh,
“The problem’s not the answer, it’s the question—oh my!
To find out what you seek, a new world must be built,
A computer so grand, it’ll make you all tilt.”

So they made a new Earth, with oceans and skies,
To figure out the question, before anyone dies.
But the story’s a joke, with a twist you’ll adore,
Because just before it finished, the Earth was no more.

Destroyed in an instant, by a bureaucratic race,
They needed a bypass, and Earth was in the space.
No time for the question, no final revelation,
Just paperwork and red tape, and cosmic devastation.

The Hungarian horsemen and later the Hungarian hussars were famous for their cavalry gallop, which they practiced professionally. This inspired this music, for which I used guitar, drums, synthesizer and Ableton line.
