The Ghost - John Albert 

The Ghost knocked on the door just like they did all the times before 
I thought I’d invite them in and see if they might sit with me again, I said,
“Why did you go away?” And then “Where have you been?”, “How long can you stay?” And why…
"Why are you still around when you should be in a box in a hole in the ground?"

The Ghost said not a word but only looked at me and then I heard
A clear and sudden sound like a lightning clap had hit the ground 
And I jumped up right away and when I looked at the Ghost I heard somebody say that I’ll
Never see another day unless I grab those keys and drive away, So..

Now we’re out on the street
And The Ghost sits still in the next seat 
As I careen into turns
I can see them smile as the tires burn
And I made up my mind, 
They’re gonna ride with me till dying time
Well you might see me out on the road, 
but only I see The Ghost 

The Ghost made not a sound but I could sense each turn we flew around 
And I seemed to know the way without a chart for the stars or the light of the day
It seems like forever now that we were on that road all alone somehow and then 
The Ghost stuck a finger out and I could see in the mist stood a lonely town

Now we’re out on the street
And The Ghost sits still in the next seat 
As I careen into turns
I can see them smile as the tires burn
And I made up my mind, 
They're gonna ride with me till dying time
Well you might see me out on the road, 
but only I see The Ghost 

Lead

The Ghost then tapped the door so I locked up the brakes and they were gone
I sat with an empty stare thinking maybe they were never there
I got back on the road but then I saw this shadow as I drove and now
The Ghost leans on a pole but there’s one less driver to take him home.

I was sitting in our garden early in the morning, listening to the birds and nearby river, filled with gratitude for it all, and this melody welled up in me.

Self taught to play piano, bass, guitar / acoustic, and drums by ear, feeling, and emotion. Music is my passion. Though I have played in bands since the age of 15, playing anything from country, metal / rock, blues, funk, disco and pop, my behind the scenes go to music has always been dark, cinematic, melancholy music. It is my escape. During covid, being in a band was almost impossible. in 2020, I began to take composing and producing seriously. working hard to learn everything that goes into composing and producing. What comes out is different. It is art with no limits.
