This one goes out to Natasha Young​, a most lovely person from Montreal. She is moving to Los Angeles soon, which will definetly be a loss for our city. Her energy and drive are so infectuous, unbeknownst to her. She's the kind of person who is always out, discovering new things, talking to new people. She's also a very melancholic person, who reflects on life quite profoundly and re-evaluates things constantly. I relate to that, as I have become a master of life evaluation and compulsive questionning.

This Radiohead​ song is definetly one that flew under the radar but it's so quintessentially the band. Its simplicity is alarming and heartbreaking. There's a moment in another Radiohead song that I feel communicates the same feeling: a deep sense of drowning and a longing to be understood and perhaps saved by an outside force or event.

You hit the bottom and escape. You hit the bottle and escape. Escape.

When Stef came over yesterday, we weren't sure what song to play. When Alanis popped up in the discussion, we both got really excited. I got even more excited when we pulled out the lyrics. Man do I relate with what she says in the song! I'm pretty much in this exact state of mind these days. Grateful for all I've got and optimistic as can be, despite all the confusion and shit and disorientation.

Stef and I took the song somewhere quite unexpected. Now how do we get Alanis to listen to this?

I'm almost 32 and I've never felt younger or more alive. I just moved into a fantastic community space in Montreal, staying here a couple weeks. Lots of good things will come out of this, I'm sure. Before heading to bed for my first night, I had a chat with Roben about being young in your thirties. Said thirties, so far, have been the best part of my life so I'm so very glad I didn't die young. 

This song by Vampire Weekend, I'm pretty sure is not about that at all; but it is for me so here goes.

On 'The Age of Adz', 'Futile Devices' always felt misplaced to me, like a cheat at the beginning of the album. In my mind, the song belonged to the 'All Delighted People EP' he released a couple months before. The title track of that EP sounded to me like a perfect companion, almost a justification of why 'Futile Devices' existed, both lyrically and musically. That distance Sufjan Stevens​ created between the two songs always left me a bit perplexed.

It also feels ironic that 'Futile Devices' is about forbidden love, bottled up feelings, unspoken words and insufferable distance. I wanted the two songs to finally communicate, tell each other what they wanted, how they felt. "Do you love me a lot?". "Yes, I do love you". They have been longing for each other's closeness. Like an untold, impossible, unexpected love story. So here they are, talking to each other, loving each other despite the distance and the rules and the albums' tracklists.

Note: I just moved into a space and found a Fender Rhodes in the room. I'm gonna domesticate this baby in the next week or so... hope it doesn't bite.

Sometimes there's a buzz in your brain. It's a buzz that makes everything more difficult. You can't focus, but you must. So you go on singing your song. But the buzz is always here. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's not; sometimes it turns into a supporting voice. Other times, it's just nagging at you, laughing at you. And sometimes it's just glorious and grand and wonderful.

I wanted to be that buzz in Greg's brain today. He is probably the person who understands the buzz more than anyone I know. So here he is, attempting to sing this Pixies song and playing the piano, while I buzz behind him, occasionally offering him some well-deserved support. This, incidently, is how our friendship works in real life.

This Aimee Mann song never meant much to me, then it popped back in my head out of nowhere last week and it finally found its way under my skin. 

"Please love me more" looped over and over. What a move from a songwriter that never goes for basic phrasing and raw emotions.

Sometimes, our thoughts are really overwhelming and complex and layered and all that remains in the end is that we want to be loved. No fuss, no fancy thoughts. Just love.
