This is a live mix from Revival nightclub in Philadelphia with the bare essentials – two turntables, a mixer and vinyl. Back in the 90’s (before vinyl emulation software) DJing was, in my opinion, a purer art form. You had to depend on your ears to beat mix (to match the tempos) and you had to dig through various record stores to obtain your songs.

In the summer of 1995, I DJed at Revival every Friday night. Once a week I would search various record stores in Philadelphia for the newest and freshest sounds, from domestic to imports. Every Monday evening, I would go to 611 Records where owner Nigel Richards would help me with the newest arrivals of imports. During lunch break from my day job, once a week, I would go to Armand's Records were Cosmo Baker would play me the hottest songs that arrived that week and I would also check out Sound of Market’s selection. Nothing compares to vinyl from touching it, to hearing it.

This was a labor of love... especially using vinyl in a live setting!!  You can do the counting (and the trainspotting) as there are 50+ songs in 47+ minutes (remember, I was recording this to cassette... which had ~45 minutes to each side, lol).  These are some of the BOOGILICIOUS grooves I play at our DO YOU WANNA BOOGIE? events!!

Robbie was a trailblazer!  He influenced a lot of DJs in Philadelphia and the east coast of the United States. DJing since 1975, Robbie still spins live every week in the City of Brotherly Love.
