Indeed. The question is an interesting one. What it should be reframed as why regret something "Others" view as irrational and wrong. Does or did the teenager view it as irrational and wrong? If it wasn't irrational and wrong then, do they view it as so now? When you say, that they know or "knew" it was wrong did they and do they? Just because society or others view the teenager having a child at an age that they don't deem to be an approprite situation doesn't mean that it is an unfortunate situation. The child isn't nessesarily unfortunate nor is the mother. There is no point in feeling regret in the decision once it is made because you can do nothing but go foward and work with your decion. Bad or good. You work with what you have in life, there is no point in trying to denegrate past decisions. It is better to look foward and make the best decisions going foward with the cards you have. With no regrets.

Some think that death amounts to total annihilation of the self; others adhere to certain religious traditions, which teach that the immaterial soul (and, in some traditions, the resurrected body) can ultimately survive death. So how are we to judge between these radically different views of what happens to us in death? What would it mean for the self to persist beyond the destruction of the body? Is there room in a scientific account of the mind for the existence of an immaterial soul? A teenager decides, on a whim, to conceive a child. Even though we might say that this decision was irrational, she cannot regret it later, because raising the child eventually becomes the most important part of her life. Cases like this show how complicated regret is: that an action was irrational or wrong doesn’t necessarily imply that we should regret it. When, then, should we regret? For that matter, why should we regret anything at all? Doesn’t the feeling of regret just add more pain to circumstances that are already unfortunate? How can it possibly be rational to affirm actions that one knows were wrong?
