Affirmations - Inner Wisdom

Well, THIS is certainly a change of pace to the typical sample fueled noise--whether rock, dance, funk, or post-punk in nature--typical of most Interbay releases.  

But, occasionally, I'll produce a pretty one.  And this is one of the pretty ones.  

While I've written the words you hear on this track, and while admitting that I am, indeed, an old...I'm not ready to cash in my chips or do a wistful recollection before I pass on.  Not just yet, thank you.  But, occasionally, these thoughts poke around in the bushes of my withering brain.  So, I know they're there...they're just not here, as in this song.  

Perhaps a new year is bringing with it a new found wisdom.  As is typical, I over wrote for the purposes of the song...and I was considering making the music longer to fit in all of the words I'd written for it.  But, when I listened to the track with the words on it for the first time earlier today, I was delighted that right when the music ends, the narrative reached a natural end.  

Someday, perhaps, there could be a reprise of "Vermilion" that includes the parts of the story that I couldn't fit in--but rest assured that it is mostly just repeating what was already said in slightly different ways.  You're not missing like a shipwreck or an unsolved murder or a decision to throw a really expensive piece of jewelry into the ocean.  

("You're so stupid, Rose," not only said Jack Dawson but everyone in the theater when Gloria Stewart gave a little "oops" and let that diamond fall out of her hands and into the water.)  

I don't know, not really, why I chose the title "Vermilion"--it was the name of the project file before I wrote any of the words.  I know it was a popular word in my friend group some 40 years ago...and maybe that memory is blending in with the anticipation of the finite nature of time.    

A bit too melancholy to pursue that much further, I suppose.  This is not a sad track...it is a thoughtful one.  And yes, a pretty one.  (I'm sure some awful racket will be shared tomorrow.)
