Glasgow’s Harvey McKay adds Second State to his already brimming back catalog with ‘Midnight’ EP, featuring 3 driving and grooving cuts. A hard-hitter in Scotland’s techno scene, Harvey regularly appears at international hotspots including Space Ibiza, Awakenings and fabric, to name a few.

The opening track ‘Midnight’ is high-spirited yet dark and energetic, creating a more stripped back style of McKay production. A booming reverberating kick dances with scattered hi-hats and a low slung bouncing synth to create a deep & dusky atmosphere. Ascending keys keep the tension tight and high along with solitary stabs that whine and wring out over the main groove.

‘Oberon’ begins with a dappled kick and solitary hi-hat layered upon minimal pads which are soon buried by a hypnotic, marching churn and percussive wails. These elements are gradually bound together to create the base of the track, with intermittent breakdowns that allow the pads and wails to break through and add depth. As the track develops, the major notes intensify and are brought to the forefront with a cyclic sample that's teased out, but never allowed to fully burst through the chaos.

McKay rounds up with a relentless piece of techno in ‘Elves Playground’. A revolving metallic texture twirls over the booming kick to create a playful element in this cut before a deep and brooding drone takes control. As the devilish track progresses, the buzzing drone is toned down and injected back with ferocious vigor each time. A driving and textured production with clever minimal rave elements that are guaranteed to get you moving.

Luigi Madonna returns to Drumcode a year after his superb single ‘Primo’ using familiar hooks, huge stabs and monstrous drums that storm across the dance floor which, are common with Mr Madonna. The hard hitting raw vibe of this EP gives Luigi an edge, with fluttering high’s and saturated lows, Luigi’s tracks are a mainstay in all DJ sets. The EP encompasses different emotions throughout that can be felt within the track ‘Singer One’, offering a more mellow side to Luigi’s already expansive catalogue.

<p>The Duss boys make their phobiq debut with &#8220;Splitted&#8221; and the title track stomps through the door with distorted effects, metallic chords, and a chrome-plated attitude. &#8220;Mistral&#8221; follows with its snappy groove and cavernous vibe -without being chaotic-, while an apocalyptic breakdown acts as a welcomed breather. Closing up, the &#8220;Duss On Acid&#8221; mix does just that, introducing warped synth action, squelches and a grinding rhythm section.</p>

We gladly welcome one of German’s notable new names in the techno scene. You might know Patrik Berg from his earlier releases on labels like Tronic and Alleanza. The magic duo Loco & Jam are on board for the remix.

The EP kicks off with the title track Running Numbers. Atmospheric synth swell and fade away while the hypnotic, repetitive synth sets its groovy sequence. A monstrous bass drum combined with tight hats and cymbal rides create some substantial impact on the dance floor. A mechanical arpeggiated synth sets the perfect mood for the outstanding vocal; an absolute A-side bomb by Berg.

The second track is the Loco & Jam remix of White Armour. True to their signature style the tracks opens with a fat kick and crispy, well placed drums. Gradually through filtered stabs and reverberated vocal snippets, a dreamy, distant, memorable synth line. The break ends with understatement, making the build not too obvious, leaving room for all the elements to come together nearing the end of the track. Their remix for Patrik Berg is definitely one of Loco & Jam’s stronger works to date.

The EP continues with Lovely Vicious. A stripped back clear groove sets the basis for acidic synth stabs and well placed reverberated synthetic chords. The chords unfold into pads that swell during the first half of the track. Magically the main acid hook arises from this pad, switching the track into to next gear after the break. Hypnotic and heavy hitting at the same time.

We finalise Running Numbers EP with the original mix of White Armour. Berg’s typical groove is supplemented by a clear, classy clap. The interplay between the background stabs, synth chords and vocals create a magical, soothing atmosphere, topped off by a colossal main theme.
